摘要: A method facilitating a transaction between a camera-phone user and a business entity. The business entity produces a printed medium indicating a transaction. The printed medium includes a barcode that includes direct contact data for communicating with the business entity. The barcode further includes specific transaction data relating to the transaction in the printed medium. Using the digital camera feature, the user captures a digital image of the barcode. The camera-phone is programmed to decode the digital image to retrieve the direct contact data and the transaction data embedded in the barcode. The camera-phone then automatically initiates a direct communication with the business entity via the mobile communications device using the decoded direct contact data. Once communications are established, the camera phone further transmits the transaction data derived from the barcode to further facilitate the transaction. The barcode includes an encrypted digital signature that can be used by the camera-phone to authenticate the identity of the business entity that created the printed medium.

摘要: A system for generating direct offers includes a computer system adapted to generate a group of offers, a list of targeted recipients that may be potential customers, and a set of business rules for selecting appropriate ones of the offers based at least in part on certain personal recipient information. The system also includes a third party computer system and a database that stores in confidence personal information for each of the targeted recipients. The third party computer system is adapted to receive the offers, the list of targeted recipients, and the set of business rules, select an appropriate one of the offers, if any, for each targeted recipient according to the business rules based at least in part on the personal information of the targeted recipients, and construct and cause to be sent a final offer for each of the targeted recipients for which an offer has been selected.

摘要: A contaminant detection system for mail is provided. A mail piece enters the system according to the present invention and a probe is inserted into the mail piece. An extraction device, such as, for example, a vacuum system, extracts a sample of air, including any dust and other particles, from inside the mail piece. The extracted sample is provided to a sampling system that monitors for the presence of a possible contaminant. If any type of contaminant is found in the sampled air, dust and other particles, a signal can be provided to alert an operator of contaminant detection and the mail piece can be diverted and held for further investigation. If no contaminants are detected, the mail piece is accepted and delivered to a normal processing path.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a system and method that identifies potentially life harming mailpieces. The system generally comprises a mailpiece sorting apparatus which includes a scanner, a scale, a appropriate thickness and length measurement sensors and compartments or bins for receiving sorted mailpieces, an OCR system for reading address information, one or more databases, microprocessor based control system, a document scanner and email functionality. The system and method captures and analyzes mailpiece metrics. The metrics are incorporated into a decision making process as to how the mailpiece should be sorted. The system and method identifies potentially life harming mailpieces with mailpiece processing so as to help deter delays in incoming mail delivery caused by the presence of life harming material in mailpieces and helps to protect the intended recipients from harm.

摘要: A mail production system enhanced for measuring and reducing carbon footprint of mail. The system includes an inserter machine with sensors configured to detect attributes of mail that may contribute to carbon footprint. A controller computer is in communication with the inserter sensors. The controller further receives and stores mail job attribute data from a data file regarding attributes of the mail to be produced. The computer memory includes data correlating particular mail attributes to corresponding carbon footprint. The controller computer is programmed to calculate a carbon footprint for mail to be produced on the inserter by adding carbon footprint contributed by sensed attributes and mail job attribute data. The controller computer stores carbon footprint data for comparison with future mail jobs. The controller computer provides the user with carbon reduction suggestions corresponding to attributes of the mail.

摘要: A method and system is provided for confirming and/or verifying receipt of a mailpiece by an intended mail recipient. The method includes the step of establishing a relationship between the intended mail recipient and an RFID tag affixed to the mailpiece. Upon delivery of the mailpiece, the actual mail recipient is caused to affect communication between an RFID enabled phone in the possession of the actual mail recipient and the RFID tag of the mailpiece. By comparing the information acquired by the RFID enabled phone and the RFID tag, (i.e., the relationship information stored on the RFID tag), a determination can be made as to whether the intended mail recipient is the actual mail recipient. Alternate embodiments of the invention effect confirmation/verification by capturing various biometric characteristics of the mail recipient and comparing such information to previously stored biometric data of the intended mail recipient.

摘要: A system and method to facilitate targeted campaign communications on mobile devices. Rather than rely on the GPS functionality of the mobile device, the method is able to determine the location of the mobile device by determining the location of the campaign media that is being scanned. Location information is embedded in encoded data, such as a 2D barcode or an RFID tag, to be placed the campaign media for this purpose. The campaign entity sends campaign data, including location data, to the campaign preparation servers of the barcode campaign service. The location data can be an address indicating where campaign entity plans to place their campaign media, or a location where campaign entity expects a recipient to receive the campaign media through the mail.
