    Abstract: A combined cycle power generation and storage system is shown. A liquid air energy storage system uses excess power to liquefy air and stores it in a liquid state. A combustion engine produces power by combustion of a carbon-based fuel along with an exhaust stream containing carbon dioxide. A heat recovery system exchanges heat from the exhaust stream to air from the liquid air storage system, and thereby produce a cooled exhaust stream and heated air. An air expansion machine recovers power by expansion of heated air from the heat recovery system. A separation system separates carbon dioxide from ambient air prior to liquefaction during operation of the liquid air energy storage system, and separates carbon dioxide from the cooled exhaust stream during operation of the combustion engine prior to emission of the cooled exhaust stream to atmosphere.

    Abstract: A combined cycle engine is formed of a gas turbine cycle coupled with a fuel expansion cycle in which fuel for the gas turbine cycle is the working fluid of the fuel expansion cycle. The fuel expansion cycle comprises, in flow series, a fuel pump for pumping a cryogenic fuel for the gas turbine cycle, a first heat exchanger for heating the fuel, an expander to recover power by expansion of the fuel and to thereby drive a load, and a second heat exchanger to reheat the fuel. The gas turbine cycle comprises, in flow series, a compressor, a combustor for combustion of reheated fuel delivered from the second heat exchanger, and a turbine configured to drive the compressor. The first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger are stationed downstream of the combustor and configured to transfer heat from combustion products to the fuel in the fuel expansion cycle.

    Abstract: A combined refrigeration and power plant. The power plant comprises an internal combustion engine an air cycle machine refrigerator driven by the internal combustion engine and configured to refrigerate atmospheric air to provide working fluid to combined refrigeration and power generation cycle, a refrigerated air storage unit configured to store working fluid produced by the air cycle machine refrigerator; and first and second heat exchangers. The first heat exchanger arrangement is configured to exchange heat between a device to be cooled and the working fluid, and the second heat exchanger arrangement is configured to exchange heat between the working fluid downstream of the first heat exchanger in the combined refrigeration and power generation cycle and waste heat from the internal combustion engine; and a generator turbine configured to receive heated working fluid from the second heat exchanger arrangement, and configured to power an electrical generator.
