摘要： A three cone rock bit is disclosed having at least a pair of mini-extended nozzles extending from a dome portion of the bit. Two 120.degree. leg segments contain extended nozzles, a third 120.degree. segment is nozzleless. The mini-extended nozzles convert hydraulic pressure to kinetic fluid flow energy with a minimum of flow disturbance, thereby delivering a concentrated flow of fluid against the floor of the formation and across the cutting face of the bit, sweeping detritus past the nozzleless 120.degree. leg segment and up the borehole. A centerjet mini-extended nozzle may additionally be positioned in the rock bit dome to further enhance borehole penetration.

摘要： A metal-to-metal seal for a rotary cone rock bit consists of pre-lapped metal sealing surfaces formed on opposing seal rings prior to assembly of the seal rings into seal cavities formed between the rotary cones and their respective journal bearings. A first seal ring is fabricated from a softer metallic material than its opposing second metallic ring and the second ring has more seal surface area than the first ring to accommodate for cone wobble or eccentricities that may occur during operation of the bit in a borehole.

摘要： A flow cavitation insert device is adapted to be positioned adjacent a conventional nozzle, the nozzle then is converted to a cavitation nozzle for a rock bit. The cavitation device is designed to operate with hydraulic drilling mud and comprises a circular adapter plate with a concentric orifice formed thereby. A cavitation-inducing, flow restrictor crossbar radially intersects the center of the orifice formed by the plate. The crossbar is secured to the circular disc where the opposite ends of the flow restrictor come in contact with an axially aligned wall forming the inside diameter of the orifice.
