Abstract: Method for the production of 3-picoline wherein a first educt, consisting of at least one acetaldehydeacetal with or without acetaldehyde and/or crotonaldehyde, is reacted with a second educt, consisting of at least one formaldehydeacetal and/or hexamethylenetetramine with or without formaldehyde, in a liquid, aqueous phase at a temperature of 180.degree. to 280.degree. The reaction is also conducted in the presence of an anion or anions of an inorganic and/or organic acid or acids, which at 20.degree. C. have an acid dissociation constant of 10.sup.6 to 10.sup.-12.
