    摘要: A hand-operated portable electric ignition device for the ignition of gas comprises within an insulating housing means for producing from a battery relatively high voltage alternating current pulses in response to the operation of a manually-operable switch, said means including a transistor oscillator circuit, rectifying means for rectifying the alternating current pulses for charging a capacitor and means arranged to conduct to provide for the discharge of the capacitor through the primary of a transformer in the output circuit of which is a spark gap across which sparking occurs when the charge voltage on the capacitor reaches a predetermined value. The manually-operable switch comprises an actuating button which is slidably mounted in the housing and which engages with a free end of springy relatively stiff wire constituting the moving contact of the switch and in response to the depression of the actuating button the wire contact makes wiping contact with a fixed contact plate having its contact edge disposed oblique to the direction of movement of the actuating button.

    摘要: An apparatus for rapidly quenching substantially flat metal workpieces which have been heated during a heat treatment process is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a substantially flat plate having a plurality of vapor relief apertures therein, a wick element which overlies the plate so that it substantially covers the apertures, and means for supplying a coolant such as water, to the wick element so that the coolant is substantially evenly dispersed therein. The apparatus is operable for urging a heated workpiece into face to face engagement with the wick element to effect intimate contact between the workpiece and the coolant in the wick element. As soon as the workpiece contacts the coolant in the wick element, at least a portion of the coolant is substantially instantaneously vaporized to effect rapid cooling of the workpiece, the vaporized portion of the coolant escaping from the wick element through the relief apertures in the plate so that it does not impede the quenching process. The apparatus is operable for rapidly and uniformly cooling a substantially flat metal workpiece through the hardening range of the metal from which it is constructed to enhance the hardness, flexibility, and durability of the metal.
