Abstract: A method for stripping CO2 from a biocatalyst-containing CO2-rich absorption solution to produce a biocatalyst-containing CO2-lean absorption solution and a CO2-rich gas is provided. The method includes generating a stripping gas from a portion of the biocatalyst-containing CO2-lean absorption solution in a stripping gas generation unit, and contacting the biocatalyst-containing CO2-rich absorption solution with the stripping gas in a gas-liquid contactor to produce the CO2-lean absorption solution and the CO2-rich gas.

Abstract: CO2 capture processes and systems can be improved by recovering thermal energy from particular streams for reuse in the stripping stage. Thermal energy can be recovered from the overhead gas stream of a stripper operated under vacuum pressure conditions, and thermal energy can also be recovered from a flue gas. A heat transfer circuit can be implemented for recovering thermal energy by indirect heat transfer from the overhead gas stream, a flue gas stream, and/or other streams to a heat transfer fluid. The heat transfer circuit can include multiple heat recovery loops arranged in parallel and the heated fluid can be supplied through a reboiler of the stripper to heat the solution in the reboiler.

Abstract: A desulfurization gas process includes water vapor, CO2 and SOx (x=2 and/or 3). In a treatment unit, the gas contacts a cooled alkaline aqueous solution having a temperature lower than an initial gas temperature, water and a carbonate of an alkali metal, to cool the gas, condense some water vapor and absorb SOx in the carbonate-containing solution, produce an SOx-depleted gas and an acidic aqueous solution including sulfate and/or sulfite ions. The SOx-depleted gas and a portion of the acidic aqueous solution can then be withdrawn from the treatment unit. Carbonate of the alkali metal can be added to remaining acidic aqueous solution to obtain a made-up alkaline aqueous solution. This solution can be cooled and reused as the cooled alkaline aqueous solution. An SOx absorbent solution includes a bleed stream from a CO2-capture process, sodium or potassium carbonate, and an acidic aqueous solution obtained from desulfurization.
