A content providing apparatus is disclosed. The content providing apparatus comprises: a communication unit for communicating with an external apparatus; an image processing unit for generating a compressed image by image-processing an input original image; and a control unit for controlling the communication unit to divide the original image into one or more regions based on the image quality, to obtain characteristic information for each region from the respective regions, and to transmit the obtained characteristic information for each region together with the compressed image to the external apparatus. As the result, the display apparatus may perform image quality improvement operation so that the image quality is close to the original quality level by extracting information required for improving the image quality and transmitting the same together with a compressed image in production and encoding steps before transmitting the image.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing a multi-view image is provided. The method includes: extracting disparity information between an image of a first point of view and an image of a second point of view; and estimating a motion between two sequential images of the first point of view or the second point of view using the extracted disparity information. The apparatus may include a processor which is configured to extract disparity information between an image of a first point of view and an image of a second point of view in the multi-view image and is further configured to estimate a motion using the extracted disparity information between two sequential images of the first point of view or the second point of view.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus which is capable of providing images with enhanced resolution and enhanced sharpness is provided. The image processing apparatus includes an inputter configured to receive an input of image data, an up-scaler configured to up-scale the inputted image data, a region sense unit configured to sense an edge region and a line region within the up-scaled image data by extracting brightness information of the up-scaled image data, an image corrector configured to correct the up-scaled image data in different correction methods for each of the edge region and the line region, and an outputter configured to output the corrected image data.

Provided are an image encoding method and apparatus, and an image decoding method and apparatus. The image encoding method includes: obtaining a variation of a motion estimation error with respect to a homogeneity degree of a motion vector according to mergence, based on a motion vector of each of merged blocks obtained by merging adjacent blocks, motion vectors of the adjacent blocks included in each of the merged blocks, and motion vectors of neighboring blocks of each of the merged blocks; and determining, based on the obtained variation, a merged block having a smallest variation from among the merged blocks and whether to merge the adjacent blocks included in the determined merged block.
