    Abstract: A rechargeable battery includes a short-circuit path connected to a first terminal and spaced from a second terminal. The short-circuit path changes direction at least once, and may be formed from one or more conductive surfaces. The short-circuit path establishes a first short circuit when the battery receives a force in a first direction, and a second short circuit when the battery receives a force in a second direction. Each short-circuit path delivers a current to a fuse coupled to the second terminal. The first and second short circuits are established independently from one another based on different forces applied to the battery.
