Abstract: Provided is an electrical household appliance (1) have a water tank (2) and a water supply system (4) communicating with the tank, at least one scale-inhibiting agent and means (3) for boiling and/or evaporating the water coming from the reservoir or contained in the reservoir. The scale-inhibiting agent is a biodegradable agent that is at least partially water-soluble. Also provided is a method for inhibiting the formation and deposition of scale in electrical household appliances in contact with an aqueous medium, the method employing said biodegradable scale-inhibiting agent.
