Abstract: An illumination device of the present disclosure includes: a first light source unit that emits first light of a first wavelength band; a first spatial light modulator where the first light from the first light source unit enters; a second light source unit that emits second light of a second wavelength band; an integrator optical system including a first fly-eye lens where the second light from the second light source unit enters and generating illumination light for an illumination target on a basis of the first light having been modulated by the first spatial light modulator and the second light from the second light source unit; and a multiplexing optical system that multiplexes the second light having entered the first fly-eye lens and the first light having been modulated by the first spatial light modulator, in an optical path between the first fly-eye lens and the illumination target.

Abstract: An illuminator of the present disclosure includes a light source unit that emits at least one colored light, and emits, for each of the pieces of colored light, light having a plurality of peak wavelengths different from each other, and a diffraction device that includes a plurality of divided areas, and displays, in each of the divided areas, a diffraction pattern that is optimized at a corresponding peak wavelength out of each of the peak wavelengths. The plurality of divided areas allows the light of the plurality of peak wavelengths to enter the plurality of divided areas individually for each of the pieces of colored light.

The phase modulator according to the present disclosure includes a light phase modulation element that has a plurality of pixels arranged with the pixel pitches p being different from each other to have a pixel structure suppressing occurrence of high-order diffraction light and that modulates a phase of light with respect to each of the pixels. Moreover, the phase modulator according to the present disclosure includes a capturing optical system that captures a plurality of fluxes of high-order diffraction light generated in each of the pixels.

Thus, in a case where warpage occurs in the substrate due to a stress caused by thermal expansion arising in each of the fluorescent layer and the substrate, it is possible to reduce an amount of displacement of the fluorescent layer.

Light in at least one of the first to third wavelength bands enters the first incident surface of the color separator as first polarized light, and light in the other wavelength bands enters the second incident surface of the color separator as second polarized light orthogonal to the first polarized light.
