A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display apparatus including providing a liquid crystal composition between a first substrate and a second substrate facing the first substrate, the liquid crystal composition including liquid crystal molecules, a thermal initiator, and a reactive monomer; applying heat to the liquid crystal composition to form alignment inducing patterns; forming an electric field between the first substrate and the second substrate; and providing first ultraviolet rays to the liquid crystal composition.

A curved liquid crystal display device, includes: a first bent substrate; a second bent substrate disposed facing the first bent substrate; a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first bent substrate and the second bent substrate, the liquid crystal layer including first liquid crystal molecules disposed adjacent to the first bent substrate and second liquid crystal molecules disposed adjacent to the second bent substrate; a first alignment inducing layer disposed between the first bent substrate and the liquid crystal layer; and a second alignment inducing layer disposed between the second bent substrate and the liquid crystal layer, wherein one of the first alignment inducing layer and the second alignment inducing layer includes a polymerized reactive mesogen, and the remaining alignment inducing layer includes polyimide.

A display apparatus includes: a cover panel; a display panel on the cover panel; and a cover window on the display panel. The display panel includes: a substrate having a first surface facing the cover panel, and a second surface opposite to the first surface, the substrate including: a display area including a plurality of pixels; a first peripheral area outside the display area, and overlapping with the cover panel; and a second peripheral area outside the first peripheral area; a display layer on the second surface of the substrate, and including a pixel circuit; and a thin-film encapsulation layer on the display layer. The first surface of the substrate includes: a 1-1 surface parallel to the second surface; and a 1-2 surface inclined from the 1-1 surface and located at least in the second peripheral area.

Provided are a curved liquid crystal display device and a method of manufacturing thereof. The curved liquid crystal display device includes a bent first substrate, a second substrate which is disposed to opposite to the first substrate and bent, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, a first alignment inducing layer disposed between the first substrate and the liquid crystal layer, and a second alignment inducing layer disposed between the second substrate and the liquid crystal layer. One of the first alignment inducing layer and the second alignment inducing layer includes a polymerized reactive mesogen, and the remaining alignment inducing layer includes a polyimide. Display quality of the device may be improved.
