    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5th-Generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4th-Generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. Disclosed is a method for handling calls by a first User Equipment (UE) in a communication network, the method comprising: establishing a first call with a second UE, wherein the first call is one of a Circuit-Switched (CS) call and a Packet-Switched (PS) call; establishing a second call with a third UE while the first call is in an active state, wherein the second call is one of a CS call and a PS call; and merging the first call and the second call on the basis of a specific event.

    Abstract: A method of optimizing uplink signal detection threshold is provided. The method includes initializing a current detection threshold in an allowable range of uplink detection thresholds for detection of a plurality of uplink signals for a predetermined time period and selecting and applying a detection threshold within a narrow window centered around the current detection threshold at the physical (PHY) layer. The method further includes determining whether a corresponding uplink signal among the plurality of uplink signals is detected correctly or falsely at a medium access control (MAC) layer and accumulating, for the applied detection threshold, the corresponding results of the determination at the MAC layer. The method further includes determining an optimal detection threshold from the narrow window based on an analysis of the accumulated results and applying the determined optimal detection threshold at the PHY layer as the current detection threshold for the detection of the plurality of uplink signals.
