Abstract: A method for photographing a portrait in an apparatus having a camera is provided. The method includes detecting a person in an image obtained by a camera in a photographing mode, determining occurrence of an error by identifying whether the detected person is located in a subject recognition area, generating an error warning including direction information so that the person moves into the subject recognition area if at least a portion of the person is out of the subject recognition area based on the determining of the occurrence of the error, and storing an image output by the camera if the person is located in the subject recognition area based on the determining of the occurrence of the error.
