Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for viewing an image on a display device, where the image is larger than a display area of the display device. The method includes selecting an area of the image; detecting background and foreground areas in non-selected areas of the image; and displaying the image on the display device. The selected area of the image is displayed in a predetermined scale, all of the background and foreground areas in the non-selected areas of the image are simultaneously displayed on the display device, a degree of deformation of the background areas, differs from a degree of deformation of the foreground areas, and the degree of deformation of the foreground areas changes in relation to distance moving away from the selected area.
