Abstract: An electronic device and a method for performing a function in the electronic device are provided. The method includes recognizing that the electronic device is at a first state, the first state including the electronic device being in an overturned state or a predetermined amount of the display being covered; detecting an event in the first state; and outputting, in the first state, a visual notification associated with the detected event through a portion of the display, the portion of the display wrapping around a side edge of the electronic device. A shape of the visual notification output through the portion of the display changes while the event is maintained.
