Disclosed herein are a refrigerator and method of controlling the same. Refrigerator includes a memory configured to store at least ones of characteristics of one or more goods items that are able to be stored in the refrigerator and a user's purchasing characteristics; a controller configured to display a user interface including at least one icon for at least one goods item selected based on the at least ones of the characteristics of the goods items and the user's purchasing characteristics stored in the memory, on a display unit, and to collect the user's purchase history to set a method of displaying the at least one icon for the at least one goods item; and a proximity sensor configured to measure a distance to the user, wherein the controller changes the user interface that is displayed on the display unit based on the distance to the user.

An apparatus and method for a portable terminal using a touch pen and a handwriting input method using the same are provided. In the apparatus, upon receipt of a handwriting image in an input field provided by an executed application through the touch pen, the received handwriting image is converted to text, the text is inserted in the input field, and the input field with the text is displayed.

Abstract:
A method for transmitting and receiving data between a memo layer and an application and an electronic device using the same are provided. The method includes executing an application and displaying the executed application on a touch screen, detecting a gesture on the touch screen during execution of the application, displaying a memo layer overlapped on the application according to the detected gesture, the memo layer including a handwriting input area for displaying data to be provided to the application and a display area for displaying data received from the application, receiving a handwriting image in the handwriting input area of the memo layer, recognizing the received handwriting image and comparing the recognized handwriting image with preset data, and displaying a feedback received from the application in the display area of the memo layer according to a comparison result.
