Abstract: A breather filter for reducing water in a data storage device housing includes an outer layer, an inner layer, and an intermediary layer positioned between the inner and outer layers. The outer layer includes an outer layer of hydrophilic material. The inner layer includes at least one of an inner layer of hydrophobic material and an inner layer of hydrophilic material. The intermediary layer includes a water adsorbing material, and fibers that promote water permeation from the inner layer to the outer layer.
