Disclosed is a method of driving a piezo-electric type ink jet head for jetting inks out of a nozzle by making use of a distortion of a piezo-electric element. The driving method includes a first step of driving the piezo-electric element so that a meniscus of inks is receded from an initial position of the nozzle to a first position within the nozzle, a second step of driving the piezo-electric element so that the meniscus quickly advances from the first position to a second position within the nozzle, and a third step of driving the piezo-electric element so that the meniscus slowly advances from the second position to the initial position. A particle quantity of ink particles is changed by changing a movement quantity from the first position to the second position in the second step.

A color image processing apparatus and method capable of changing/converting an inadequate-exposure image or an over-exposure image into an apparently natural image or a pleasing-lightness image. The apparatus is equipped with an object color designating section for designating an object color in an input color image, an optimum color setting section for setting an optimum color corresponding the object color, a lightness conversion factor obtaining section for obtaining a lightness conversion factor based on the object color and the optimum color, and a lightness converting section for converting the lightness of the color image using the lightness conversion factor to create a lightness-changed color image. This apparatus is useful in correcting lightness over a color image input from a digital camera, an image scanner or the like.

In a method for fingerprint identification, fingerprint images of parts of one finger of a person to be registered are registered as registered fingerprint images, and a relative position is calculated. A fingerprint image of a person to be identified is acquired as a read fingerprint image. Based on the relative position, a registered fingerprint image from among the registered fingerprint images is specified, and a matching degree between the registered fingerprint image specified and the read fingerprint image is calculated. The specifying and the calculating are executed until the matching degree is greater than a predetermined value.

A color signal selection apparatus comprising a color space split unit for splitting a color space to which an inputted first color signal belongs, according to the first color signal, and a color signal selection unit for selecting second color signals from within color subspaces which have been formed by the splitting of the color space split unit, the second color signals being distributed on the color subspaces.

When an L*a*b* value of a certain color is outside a target color gamut to be converted, it is judged whether the L*a*b* value is located within the range of the color gamut set under a predetermined condition. This set range is a range in which the accuracy is degraded if colors are converted using only a first method, for example, a range in the neighborhood of the color gamut. If a color to be converted is located within the range, colors are converted using a second method. If the L*a*b* value of the color to be converted is outside of the set range, it is converted using the first method until the conversion result is contained within the range. Then, the occurrence of both a problem which the first conversion method has for colors in the neighborhood of the color gamut when colors are converted and a problem which the second method has in the conversion of a color far from the color gamut can be suppressed.

In a virtual gamut-obtaining step, lightness, saturation, and/or hue angle of the second gamut is converted and an expanded virtual gamut including at least all of the lightness values of the first gamut is obtained. In a color data changing step, for color data which is not included in the virtual gamut in color data of the first gamut, lightness, saturation, and hue angle are changed, thereby obtaining third color data included in the virtual gamut. In a color data forming step, a conversion opposite to the conversion performed to the second gamut in the virtual gamut obtaining step is executed to the third color data, thereby forming second color data.

A fingerprint authentication apparatus stores fingerprint data of plural fingers. The fingerprint authentication apparatus stores a history of a result of an authentication process executed using the fingerprint data. The fingerprint authentication apparatus determines the number of accepted fingers, which is the number of fingers from which the fingerprint data is accepted from a user during the authentication process, and a false acceptance rate based upon the history. The fingerprint authentication apparatus accepts the fingerprint data from the fingers in the determined number of accepted fingers. The fingerprint authentication apparatus collates whether each of the accepted fingerprint data coincides or not using the determined false acceptance rate. The fingerprint authentication apparatus authenticates a user based upon a collation result.

For personal authentication using biometric information, to allow for unfailing authentication without increasing verification time even for an authentication object that is not supported only by a minutia matching method, the present invention provides a biometric information authentication device comprising: a first verifying section for verifying first to-be-verified data against first registration data registered preliminarily using a minutia matching method; a second verifying section for verifying second to-be-verified data against second registration data registered preliminarily using a pattern matching method; and a determining section for comparing match degree, which is obtained as a result of verification by the first verifying section, with a first threshold value and a second threshold value to allow the second verifying section to perform verification in the case where the match degree is equal to or smaller than the first threshold value and equal to or larger than the second threshold value.

A method enabling checks on correctness of color signal values and an extracting region, which comprises a region deciding step of deciding an extracting region for each color region of a color chart image, an extracting step of calculating a representative color signal value of the color region, a displaying step of making a display unit display the extracting region along with the color chart image, and a determining step of determining correctness of the representative color signal value on the basis of the extracting region and the color chart image displayed on the display unit. This invention is applied when a color transformation table for a color input device such as a color scanner is created, when gradation maintainability of a color input device such as a color scanner is checked, and when a color transformation table for a color output device such as a color printer is created.
摘要:
A color converting apparatus and method which accurately converts a color signal in the vicinity of the boundary of a color range of a color reproducing device. This enables dissimilar devices to exchange color images and accurately reproduce colors from the sending device to the receiving device despite different color capabilities of the two devices. This is accomplished by a first color converted result and a second color converted result are stored in a color conversion table. The first color converted result is obtained by converting an input color signal into a color signal that is color-reproducible. The second color converted result is obtained by converting an input color signal into a color signal that is not color-reproducible. In a region outside of the color reproducible range of a printer, a display, or other similar devices, when the relationship of an input color signal is accurately kept, a color signal is accurately performed.
