    Abstract: A polymeric colorant comprises a polymer-encapsulated pigment, wherein the polymer has a molecular weight in the range of 2,000 to 2,000,000 g/mole (2 to 2,000 kDa) and is a polymerization product of at least one dye-monomer conjugate. In some instances, a comonomer is added. The polymeric colorant is made by a method that comprises polymerizing at least one dye-monomer conjugate in a mixture containing pigment particles, to produce a polymerization product wherein the pigment particles are encapsulated by the polymerization product.
