Abstract:
A trailing shield is provided on a trailing side of a magnetic pole with a non-magnetic gap layer in between, and an intermediate layer having negative uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy is provided between the non-magnetic gap layer and the trailing shield. The intermediate layer has a magnetic property in which an easy axis of magnetization is provided in an in-plane direction and thus magnetization is likely to occur in that direction, whereas a difficult axis of magnetization is provided in a direction intersecting the in-plane direction and thus magnetization is less likely to occur in that direction. Accordingly, magnetic flux becomes difficult to excessively flow from the magnetic pole into the trailing shield.

This thin film magnetic head includes: a magnetic pole including an end surface exposed on an air bearing surface; and a heating element including a first branch and a second branch and configured to heat a vicinity of the magnetic pole. The first branch and the second branch each expand along a stacking surface and are coupled in parallel to each other. The stacking surface intersects the air bearing surface.

An angle sensor includes a first magnetic sensor that outputs a first signal, a second magnetic sensor that outputs a second signal, and a processor that performs processing for generating an angle detection value. The processing for generating the angle detection value includes first processing for determining a first candidate value of the angle detection value, second processing for performing processing for determining an (n+1)th candidate value either once or more than once while incrementing n in value by one each time, the (n+1)th candidate value being determined by performing second computing processing using the first and second signals, first and second strengths, and an nth candidate value of the angle detection value, where n is an integer of 1 or more, and third processing for assuming the candidate value last determined by the second processing as the angle detection value.

A rotational angle detection device includes a magnet with n pole pairs (where n≥3) provided to be integrally rotatable with a rotating body; magnetic detection parts including first and second magnetic detection parts; a corrected signal generation part generating first and second corrected signals; and a rotational angle detection part detecting the rotational angle of the rotating body based on the first and second corrected signals. The waveform of the first and second detection signals have a phase difference of 90° from each other. The corrected signal generation part adds the first sensor signals and adds the second sensor signals. The region at the perimeter of the magnet includes first through nth regions, and at least two of the first and second magnetic sensor parts are positioned in different regions from each other among the first through nth regions.
Abstract:
A position detection system includes a first magnet, a first soft ferromagnetic member, and a magnetic detector. The first magnet is magnetized in a first direction and generates a first magnetic field including a first magnetic line. The first soft ferromagnetic member is rectilinearly movable along a second direction and includes a first outer edge having a first outer edge part remote from the first magnet by a first distance in a third direction and a second outer edge part remote from the first magnet by a second distance in the third direction. The first and second outer edge parts are disposed at different positions in the second direction. The magnetic detector is kept at a predetermined constant position relative to the first magnet. The first magnetic line passes through the magnetic detector in the first direction when the first soft ferromagnetic member is at rest.

This thin film magnetic head includes: a magnetic pole including a first end surface exposed on an air bearing surface; a coil configured to provide a magnetic flux passing through inside of the magnetic pole; and a heatsink including a second end surface that is provided at a position recessed from the air bearing surface. The second end surface is configured to suppress reflection causing light that has traveled through an entering position on the air bearing surface to return to the entering position.
Abstract:
A magnetic head includes a main pole, a write shield, and a return path section. The write shield includes first and second shield portions located on opposite sides of the main pole in the track width direction. The return path section includes first and second yoke portions located on opposite sides of the main pole in the track width direction. The first yoke portion is connected to the first shield portion. The second yoke portion is connected to the second shield portion. A coil surrounds at least part of the entire outer periphery of the main pole when viewed from a medium facing surface.
