    Abstract: A boost converter that provides a wide average current limiting range includes a switch coupled to an inductor output and a power input, a diode coupled to the inductor output and an output terminal load and configured to conduct current in only one direction away from the inductor output and toward the output terminal, a clamp circuit coupled to the diode and the switch, and a minimum time off module coupled to the diode and the switch. The clamp circuit is configured to clamp an inductor output current to a reference current while the converter is operating in a continuous conduction mode (CCM) of operation. The minimum time off module is configured to cause the inductor output current to be zero for at least a time Toff while the converter is operating in a pulse frequency modulation (PFM) mode of operation.

    Abstract: A voltage regulator circuit includes a first transistor, an inductor, and a diode. The inductor connects to the diode at a switch node. The voltage converter produces an output voltage that is larger than an input voltage. The first transistor has on and off states and electrically couples a node to ground when in the on state. An error amplifier circuit generates an error signal based on a difference between a reference voltage and a voltage indicative of the output voltage. The error signal causes the first transistor to transition from the on to the off state. An adaptive off-time generator circuit couples to the input voltage node, and generates a signal to cause the first transistor to transition from the off to the on state. The time the first transistor is in the off state is inversely proportional to the time the first transistor is in the on state.

    Abstract: In described examples, a boost converter includes an inductor, a voltage input, a current regulator, an intermediate node, a transistor, and a regulation circuit. The inductor has first and second terminals. The voltage input provides an input voltage, and is coupled to the first inductor terminal. The current regulator has current regulator input and output. The current regulator input is coupled to the second inductor terminal. The current regulator allows current to flow from the current regulator input to the current regulator output, and not vice versa. The intermediate node provides a node voltage. The transistor includes a source, a drain, and a gate. The drain is coupled to the current regulator output via the intermediate node. The regulation circuit includes a first regulation input coupled to receive the input voltage, a second regulation input coupled to the intermediate node, and a regulation output coupled to the gate.
