Abstract: A membrane electrode assembly includes a polymer electrolyte membrane that has a first surface and a second surface, an air electrode catalyst layer that is joined to the first surface, and a fuel electrode catalyst layer that is joined to the second surface. The mass ratio of a fibrous material in the fuel electrode catalyst layer is higher than the mass ratio of a fibrous material in the air electrode catalyst layer.
