An inkjet recording apparatus includes K ejection electrodes and K gate electrodes corresponding to the K ejection electrodes, respectively, which are located at a distance from the K ejection electrodes. The K gate electrodes are divided into M blocks each having N gate electrodes electrically connected in common. A first voltage pulse is applied to a selected one of N groups each formed by electrically connecting an i.sup.th (1.ltoreq.i.ltoreq.N) ejection electrode for each block to each other and a second voltage pulse is applied to a selected one of the M blocks. A capacitance is detected between an ejecting electrode and an opposite electrode by a capacitance detecting circuit with a recording medium placed on the opposite electrode. An electric field strength in the ejecting electrode is calculated by a gap adjustment control circuit based upon the detected capacitance. A motor driving circuit is controlled so that the electric field strength is set to a preset value. A lead screw coupled to the ejecting electrode is rotated by a motor and a gap between the ejecting electrode and the opposite electrode is thereby adjusted. Even if the thickness of a used recording medium changes, the ejecting electric field strength is kept stable and the recording quality is stabilized.

The laminate structure includes a first base film, a plurality of patterned recording electrodes, a plurality of patterned control electrodes and a second base film. The recording electrodes and control electrodes are alternately arranged one by one as viewed perpendicular to the laminate. The tips of the recording electrodes are located ahead of the tips of the control electrodes toward the opposite electrode. In operation, the control electrodes located on both sides of a specified recording electrode are applied with a high voltage pulse to eject liquid ink from the meniscus in the vicinity of the specified recording electrode. The ink jet recording head can be manufactured at low costs and with a higher density.

A stable printing quality is obtained by detecting the toner concentration near the ejection opening by the toner concentration detection circuit and controlling a voltage to be applied to the ejection electrodes corresponding to a detected value.
