    摘要: The specification and drawings present a new apparatus and method for using a spectrally selective mirror/filter to facilitate high efficiency of backlighting and high reflectivity of ambient light in an electronic display. The spectrally selective mirror/filter (or optical filter) may be placed between an upper display (spatial light amplitude modulator) and a backlight unit comprising light sources generating primary colors such as RBG of a display color gamut. This optical filter has a high reflectivity of visible light except for narrow-band transmission windows substantially coinciding with the primary colors.
