    Abstract: An amino(phenyl) borane of the formula R1(3-n)B(NR2)n is made by the interaction of an aminohaloborane of the formula (R2N)nBX(3-n), an aromatic halide of the formula R1X and, in a state capable of providing a continuously available active surface, a metal consisting of sodium, lithium, potassium, a sodium-potassium alloy or sodium amalgam, X being chlorine or bromine, R1 being phenyl, m- or p-tolyl, R being an alkyl group of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cyclohexyl, benzyl, unsubstituted phenyl or an alkyl-substituted phenyl in which the alkyl substitutent contains from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and n being 1 or 2. The metal is either dispersed in a very small particle size or in a liquid or molten condition and the reaction is conducted with agitation. Examples of reactants are given and detailed examples describe the preparation of bis(dimethylamino)phenylborane, dimethylamino(diphenyl)borane, bis(diphenylamino) phenylborane and bis(dimethylamino)-p-tolylborane.
