Abstract: A process for oxidizing alkyl aromatic compounds is described. The alkyl aromatic compound is oxidized producing an aromatic carboxylic acid, and an aromatic amide compound. The aromatic amide compound is then hydrolyzed with a hydrolyzing agent to the aromatic carboxylic acid.
