Disclosed is a method for manufacturing thin sheets of high-strength titanium alloys. The method includes the steps of preparing initial blanks, assembling the initial blanks into a pack within a sheath, and heating and hot rolling the pack of the initial blanks in the sheath. The method is characterized in that, in the step of preparing the initial blanks, blanks having an (α-phase grain size of not more than 2 μm are produced by hot rolling a forged or die-forged slab to a predetermined value of a relative thickness hB/hF, where hB is a thickness in mm of the initial blank before said pack hot rolling and hF is a final sheet thickness in mm, and by heat treating the initial blanks followed by rapidly cooling; and in that the step of pack hot rolling is conducted in quasi-isothermal conditions in longitudinal and transverse directions, while changing a rolling direction by about 90° after a predetermined total reduction in one direction is achieved. The method provides big-sized thin sheets made of high-strength titanium alloys and having homogeneous submicrocrystalline structure where an average grain size is less than 1 μm. The sheets have the required mechanical properties suitable for superplastic forming (SPF) at temperatures below 800° C.

Metastable β-titanium alloy contains, in mass %: from 1.5 to 3.5 aluminum; from 4.5 to 8.0 molybdenum; from 1.0 to 3.5 vanadium; from 1.5 to 3.8 iron; titanium balance. This alloy combines high strength and ductility. This allows to use it for production of a wide range of critical parts including fastener components and different coil springs (e.g. in automobile industry).

The inventive titanium-based alloy contains 2.2-3.8 mass % aluminium, 4.5-5.9 mass % vanadium, 4.4-5.9 mass % molybdenum, 2.0-3.6 mass % chromium, 0.1-0.4 mass % zirconium, 0.01-0.18 mass % iron and 0.03-0.25 mass % oxygen, the rest being titanium. Said alloy exhibits a high processing plasticity in hardened condition thereof associated with a high strength. The alloy has a high temperature range, thereby making it possible to use it not only for screw heads and helical springs but also for producing large-sized semi-products whose cross section ranges up to 60 mm and which are used in high temperature conditions.

The invention is an electronic sensor for producing an indication of fluid level in a hose or tube and an electronic indicating circuit that uses the sensor's indication of fluid level for asserting one of three indicators depending upon whether the fluid level is above a reference by a small distance, within the small distance of the reference, or below the reference by the small distance. A float retaining a core having a relative magnetic permeability significantly greater than one is supported by fluid near three vertically disposed coils. The center coil is excited by a source of alternating current and the position of the core above or below the center coil determines the voltages present in the top and bottom coil. The voltages present in the top and bottom coils are rectified and added in polarity opposition to produce an indication of fluid level. A plurality of voltage comparators, supplied by the indication of fluid level and fixed voltages, are used to assert the appropriate indicator. The indicators are pulsed on and off by a switchable oscillator when the primary supply voltage falls below a predetermined level. In the preferred embodiment, the indicators are lamps, the lamps are placed remotely from the sensor, and a source of adjustable voltage is added to the indication of fluid level.
