Abstract: A long life gas-filled proportional counter radiation detector is provided having a shielded gas reservoir interconnected with the prime detection chamber. The gas fill within the detection chamber is exposed to radiation but the reservoir gas is shielded to thereby minimize dissociation and absorption of the gas upon the chamber wall.
