摘要: Acoustic energy generated at, or reflected from, a specific area in the ocean is collected by an array of n transducer elements. The signals from these elements are amplified, processed and fed to a scaled down set of n transmitting transducer elements similarly shaped and similarly positioned relative to each other. These transmitting elements are located in one region of a tank of liquid and an array of detectors for monitoring the sonic energy distribution is located in another region of the tank. The received signals are processed in such a way that the acoustic energy distribution in the tank in the vicinity of the detector array is similar to that emanating from the target area in the ocean. No sonic lens needs to be used in the tank.

摘要: A transmitter transducer projects a short time pulse of acoustic energy which impinges upon and progressively insonifies a target area to be viewed. Acoustic returns are received by an acoustic lens which focuses the energy from individual adjacent receiver strips of the target area onto a plurality of receiver transducers located behind the lens. The output signals provided by the receiver transducers are suitably processed and displayed so as to portray the target area and any targets on it. The receiver transducers are relatively small and are arranged in a row with the acoustic lens being of the type which includes one or two cylindrical surfaces and arranged parallel to the target area to be viewed. Two sets of transducers may be utilized in conjunction with one lens for forming two sets of receiver beams and when mounted on a carrier vehicle, can be used for sidelooking sonar operations. Another lens and set of receiver transducers is utilized for imaging areas forward of the carrier vehicle for imaging areas missed by the other two receiver beams.

摘要: A plurality of recording heads records, on a magnetic medium, the signals derived from a corresponding plurality of transducers arranged in an array. Each recording head records a respective transducer signal on a separate track of the recording medium which is movable relative to the recording heads and relative to a readout means. The readout means comprises a plurality of linear transducers each of which extends across all of the recording tracks. The orientation of each linear transducer is greater than 0* with respect to movement of the recording medium and each linear transducer is at an angle with respect to one another. The signal provided by each linear transducer accordingly represents energy impinging upon the transducer array from a specified direction dependent upon the orientation of the linear transducer means. A scanning function is simulated by a rotation of the linear transducer means.

摘要: The invention provides a sonar system having a moving window display of the sonified area in which a single broad beam projecting transducer is employed to sonify a desired area. A plurality of line focus receiving transducers are used to receive signals from adjacent strips of the sonified area, and the signals received from each transducer are amplified, detected and sampled. A sampling switch is employed to sequentially sample each detector channel RE times, where RE represents the number of range elements. The sampled signals are then stored in a magnetic storage device, preferably a magnetic disc. The signals from a single sonar pulse are stored in groups, equal in number to the number of receiving transducers, at nonadjacent locations on the disc track, and the signals corresponding to equal range elements from previous and subsequent pulses are stored at adjacent locations in the order received. The disc rotates 360* + OR phi during one picture interval to provide the moving picture display on a cathode ray tube electrically connected to a read head on the magnetic storage means.

摘要: The present invention provides a system for sonifying an area such as the floor of the ocean and converting reflected signals to optical images. The system includes a sonic pulse transmitter and a lens for focusing reflected energy to the surface of an image converter. The image converter of the invention comprises an integrated solid-state assembly of N piezoelectric transducers electrically connected to N associated amplifiers which are in electrical contact with N associated electroluminescent cells. The image formed by the luminescent cells is focused to a television camera tube for real time display on a television monitor.
