Abstract: A refuse compactor having a ram for compacting refuse placed in a receptacle movably received in a cabinet, and control means for controlling the operation of the ram including a first manually operable element in an exposed disposition, and a second manually operable element in a hidden disposition when the receptacle is in a compacting position within the cabinet. The second control element may comprise a lock having a removable key for preventing undesirable operation of the compactor, such as by children.
