Abstract: A COVER FOR A PLATEN EMPLOYING A PAIR OF CURTAINS WHICH ARE DRAWN IN SUCCESSION FROM ROLLS OVER THE PLATEN. THE FIRST OR LEADING CURTAIN IS OF A SIZE SUFFICIENT TO AT LEAST COVER THE TRANSPARENT PORTION OF THE PLATEN WHEN UNROLLED AND CONSISTS OF A MATERIAL WITH INHERENT SELF-COILING TENDENCIES. THE SECOND OR TRAILING CURTAIN IS LARGER THAN THE FIRST CURTAIN AND COVERS THE ENTIRE PLATEN AREA INCLUDING THE FIRST CURTAIN WHEN UNROLLED. A DRAW CARRIAGE SUPPORTED FOR MOVEMENT ACROSS THE PLATEN AREA IN A PAIR OF LIFTABLE TRACK MEMBERS IS PROVIDED. ONE END OF EACH CURTAIN IS ATTACHED TO THE CARRIAGE SO THAT DRAWING OF THE CARRIAGE ACROSS THE PLATEN AREA UNROLLS BOTH CURTAINS IN SUCCESSION ONTO THE PLATEN AND ANY DOCUMENT RESTING THEREON. WHERE THE DOCUMENT IS RELATIVELY THICK, THE LIFTABLE TRACK MEMBES ENABLE THE CARRIAGE TO BE RAISED FOR PASSAGE OVER THE DOCUMENT.

Abstract: A sheet separating apparatus having a plurality of rollers supported along a common axis adapted to be placed upon the top sheet of a stack of paper. The rollers are adapted to be raised vertically from the stack and also their common axis support rocked so as to permit the outboard rollers to lift individually from the top sheet. Each of the rollers is provided with a one way clutch relative to its support structure.

Abstract: A biasable transfer member is herein disclosed suitable for use in transferring xerographic images from a photoconductor to a final support sheet. The member is adapted to electrically cooperate with the photoconductor to establish a directional force field therebetween capable of attracting toner from the photoconductor toward the member and features a structure which provides for a more efficient transfer operation while at the same time accurately matching the speed of the support sheet to the photoconductor.

Abstract: A platen cover for a copying machine in which a top housing is formed by contiguous walls with an opened bottom overlying a platen glass on which document material to be reproduced is placed. A diaphragm assembly under tension is secured to the bottom of the top housing to ensure lighttight covering of the platen glass to prevent radiation from emanating beyond the cover.
