摘要: A method of directly measuring moisture content in an oil-filled transformer includes using an optical fiber that having a grating sensor, such as a Fiber Bragg grating, defined in the optical fiber. The various conductors (windings) in the transformer are insulated using an insulator such as paper and insulating oil is filled inside the transformer. Moisture in the transformer is absorbed by the paper that surrounds the windings. A moisture content at a specific location can be measured by placing the optical fiber with the grating sensor directly at the specific location to be measured. A physical parameter of the paper that absorbed moisture changes over time, causing a change in the grating sensor of the optical fiber which changes the spectral response of optical signals that are reflected by the grating sensor. The method provides an accurate method of measuring the moisture inside the transformer at the specific location.

摘要: A risk management system includes a plurality of sensors coupled to a processor and to an electrical device, which may be a utility asset, to monitor operational characteristics of the electrical device. The processor may send sensor data and/or processed information to a memory for storage. The processed information, the sensor data, or both are visually and graphically presented in a radar chart, a table, and a sliding scale interface for both selecting data and interpreting data provided by the processor. The combination of the radar chart, the table, and the sliding scale interface allows a user of any level of training or education to quickly and efficiently interpret the sensor data, the processed information, or both with respect to the electrical device. The radar chart depicts a failure profile that provides a visual summary of determined risk scores corresponding to subcomponents of the electrical device that may need investigation, maintenance, or replacement.

摘要: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a hybrid mechanical and electrical transformer temperature monitor. The mechanical sensing mechanism drives mechanical switches, a local display and a sensing input to the electrical side of the monitor. The electrical portion of the temperature monitor has the ability to calculate winding temperature (with an additional current sensor), data log, actuate electrical switches and has a local display for winding temperature.

摘要: The invention provides a sensor assembly for determining the concentration of hydrogen in an insulating fluid in electric power generation, transmission, and distribution equipment. The assembly includes a housing having an opening therein communicating with the fluid, a hydrogen sensor disposed in the housing and responsive to the concentration of hydrogen in the fluid and generating a signal related to the concentration of hydrogen, and a pressure sensor disposed in the housing responsive to the fluid and generating a second signal indicative of the pressure of the fluid in the equipment. The assembly further includes a signal processor disposed in the housing and connected to the hydrogen sensor and the pressure sensor and responsive to the first and second signals for generating a third signal representing the concentration of hydrogen in the fluid.

摘要: A rapid pressure rise detection and management system that detects internal pressure changes in a transformer. The rapid pressure rise detection and management system communicates with one or more pressure sensors attached to a tank of the transformer and measures the rate of pressure change versus time. The rapid pressure rise detection and management system then compares this rate of pressure change against a set of parameters to determine if this pressure change is an internal fault requiring the transformer to be taken offline or external fault to be ignored. This rapid pressure rise detection and management system may be a standalone device or work with other monitoring/controlling equipment to expand its sensing and management capabilities.

摘要: A port assembly is receivable in an opening allowing access to the interior of a transformer. The port assembly includes a body and a port cover. The body is receivable in the opening and has a substantially axial opening therethrough. The axial opening allows access to the interior of the transformer through the port. The port cover is disposed on the interior of the transformer and is movable relative to the body between a sealed position sealing the axial opening and an open position allowing access to the interior of the temperature well. The port cover is biased toward the sealing position and moves to the open position upon being acted upon by an elongate tool inserted into the temperature well through the axial opening in the port.
