    摘要: A high speed apparatus for assembling washers on headed parts such as bolt blanks, wherein individual washers are mechanically positively placed and seated onto individual blanks. The apparatus includes a linear transfer mechanism for progressively shifting the blanks through successive stations at which a washer is first placed on the end of a blank, is then "stuffed" axially along the shank of the blank, and is then positively abutted with the head. Various movements of the washers and blanks are effected by individual servomotors that greatly simplify the complexity of the apparatus, provide timing/stroke flexibility, and independent control.

The die cassettes, which have precision machined cylindrical surfaces, establish the work station centers of the machine on the die breast and receiving zones on the slide for the punch holder cassettes are established with gage blocks that are sized by reference to the respective die work station centers. The cassette system can provide a level of alignment between punch and die elements not previously practical in large machines and a flexibility in tool size that is not subject to the traditional restraint of work station center-to-center distance.

This displacement, which occurs when a mismatch condition exists, is permitted by the running clearances in the slide carrying the moveable die. When more than a negligible displacement occurs, corrective action can be taken to reject out of specification workpieces and to adjust the relative positions of the dies to maintain them in a matched condition.

    摘要: A flat die thread rolling machine provides a cam drive for the reciprocating slide which operates through a linkage to cause reciprocation of the slide. The cam provides a dwell which holds the reciprocating die stationary before the commencement of the working stroke to allow insertion of a workpiece into the dies while the dies are stationary relative to each other. The cam produces slow acceleration of the reciprocating die during the initial portion of the rolling operation to prevent workpiece slippage. The working stroke exceeds one-half of the machine cycle. Die match can be adjusted while the machine is running. Separate adjustment means are provided to adjust the tilt, parallelism, and pitch of the dies, with the pitch adjustment permitting pitch adjustment while the machine is running and without affecting tilt and parallelism adjustment. A hydraulic drive is provided to power the machine and provide high torque during jog operations and speed control during normal running operation.

    摘要: A progressive former and method of producing progressive formers is disclosed in which the bed frame is formed of two side frame members and a spacer member. The two side frame members and the spacer member are substantially fully machined before the side frame members are assembled on opposite sides of the spacer member. Within a given machine size, the side frame members are identical and the width of the spacer member is adjusted to provide the proper spacing between the side frame members for the particular number of work stations in a given machine. By utilizing component parts to produce the machine bed frame rather than a one-piece casting, substantial cost savings are achieved. Further, since the side frame members are identical in machines of a given size having different numbers of work stations, it is economically feasible to produce side frame members for inventory and then assemble them with an appropriate spacer member to provide the desired number of work stations. Similar economies are achieved by utilizing similar kickout drives in timed knockout drives at each work station. The slide and the die breast are laterally located with respect to one of the side members so that tolerance and thermally-induced variations in the spacing between side frame members do not adversely affect the alignment of the slide and the die breast.

    摘要: A closed die forging machine is disclosed in which the dies are clamped in their closed position by a hydraulically operated piston and cylinder means. A spacer is positioned between the clamping means and the movable die during the forging operation. Subsequent to the forging operation, the clamping means are released and the spacer is removed so that the movable die can be mechanically moved to its fully open position. By combining a removable spacer and hydraulic clamping means, it is possible to produce high die clamping forces without requiring substantial fluid flow to and from the clamping means. Therefore, pumping requirements are reduced and the tendency of the hydraulic fluid to become excessively hot is substantially reduced. Immediately after the completion of the forming operation within the closed die cavity, the hydraulic forces are released and a spring-powered system controlled by a cam-operated operator causes partial ejection of the finished workpiece from the stationary die. This minimizes the tendency of the fixed die to be excessively heated by the workpiece and improves die life. All of the operating functions, with the exception of the hydraulic clamping function, are mechanically produced and controlled. Consequently, high cyclic operating speeds can be achieved.

    摘要: A misalignment detector for forging machine transfers is disclosed. Such transfers provide grippers which move from a first position in which workpieces are not present to a second position when a workpiece is properly gripped. If a misaligned workpiece is present, the gripper moves to a third position beyond the second position. Each of the embodiments provides a beam-type spring mounted for deflection as the associated gripper or grippers move between the three positions. In some embodiments, the spring is bent as a function of the relative position of two opposed grippers and in other embodiments a spring is associated with a single gripper and is bent as a function of the gripper position. In some embodiments, strain gauges are mounted on the springs to produce a modulated signal to indicate the gripper position and operate the machine's emergency stop if necessary. In one embodiment, the spring is associated with a pneumatic system and allows a bleed orifice to open when misalignment is present. Opening of the bleed orifices creates a pressure drop and actuates a signal generating switch.

    摘要: A transfer for a forging or forming machine is disclosed in which the transfer assembly is journaled for pivotal rotation about an axis midway between adjacent die stations. The transfer fingers are mounted to extend radially from the pivot axis to gripper portions at the distal end. The structure provides a minimum rotational moment of inertia and dynamic imbalance to permit the transfer to operate at higher speeds. An embodiment is disclosed in which a parallelogram type mechanism connects between adjacent transfer assemblies to permit transfer without turning of the workpiece to one station and transfer with turning of the workpiece at another die station. The transfer drive is arranged on the side of the machine remote from the operator's position to provide better operator access to the machine. A simple connection is provided between the transfer and its drive which is automatically disconnected when the transfer is raised and which is reconnected when the transfer is again lowered to the operative position.
