摘要: An apparatus and method for reducing radial force variations of pneumatic tires by removing rubber in selected areas of the tire wherein a tire is rotated at a suitable high speed for nongrinding functions such as warmup and testing and the tire is rotated at a suitable slow speed for removing rubber from the selected areas of the tire. A tire with distinct suitable texture features was unexpectantly found using an apparatus and method.

摘要: Dimensional change in a tire cord (13) under thermomechanical stress is determined by a device (10) including an oven (12) for receiving and controlling the temperature of a preselected length of the cord (13), grips (14,15) for holding and selectively positioning the entire preselected length of cord (13) within the oven (12), and means (16) including an angular displacement transducer (51) for measuring changes in the preselected length of cord (13). Means (16) may also include weights (52,53) for the selective application of mechanical stress to the material. The steps employed in determining such dimensional change include inserting a length of cord (13) into grips (14,15), positioning the entire length of cord (13) (including the portion of grips (14,15) holding the cord (13)) within oven (12), controlling the temperature of the cord (13) in the oven (12), and measuring changes in the length of cord (13).

摘要: A method and apparatus for tire uniformity correction. During a sensing phase, the tire to be corrected is rotated at a speed higher than the industry standard of 60 revolutions per minute while sensing the force variations to be removed. During a rubber removal phase, the tire is rotated at a slower speed tire while removing rubber in selected amounts from slected areas of the tire corresponding force variations. Frequency modified electrical signals are generated in response to the sensed force variations in the tire during the sensing phase, such signals being at frequencies higher than the industry standard of 60 cycles per minute. Such frequency modified signals are then filtered in summer amplifiers, processed and stored in a microprocssor and then utilized for the removal of rubber in a programmed manner.

摘要: A side web non-pneumatic tire ("SWNPT") is integrally molded from a stiff, resilient elastomeric material with particular specifications, to form a unitary honeycomb structure bounded by integrally molded outer and inner cylindrical coaxial and coextensive members ("hoops"), and, a single side web member. The outer hoop is supported and cushioned by the honeycomb which comprises a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart, angularly oppositely directed planar rib members (ribs) bounded by the side web on one side only. The side web, preferably on the outboard edge of the hoops, connects the hoops near their outboard edges. The opposite side surfaces of the side web lie at an angle .theta. in the range from 0.degree. to 30.degree. on either side of vertical to the rotational axis of the SWNPT. The ribs extend axially along the inner and outer hoops, connecting them, and the outboard edges of all the ribs lie upon the inboard face of the web. The ribs on each side are angled at opposite angles in the range from 15.degree. to 75.degree. to radial planes which intersect them at their radially inner ends. A rubber tread is secured to the outer surface of the structural elements of the SWNPT provide a load-supporting outer hoop. The coaction of the structure which, in operation, is subjected to continuous compression and tensile forces as it travels over the ground. Deformation and buckling characteristics of the SWNPT are derived from the honeycomb structure of an elastomer which provides the SWNPT with "ride" and "handling" comparable to those of a conventional pneumatic tire. The outer hoop has a vulcanized rubber tread secured to the hoop's outer surface to withstand travel over a road surface. The unribbed face of the single side web may be faced with an elastomeric sidewall to resemble the sidewall of a conventional pneumatic tire.

摘要: A trapezoidal non-pneumatic tire ("TNPT") is integrally molded from a stiff, resilient elastomeric material with particular specifications, to form a unitary structure comprising outer and inner cylindrical coaxial members ("hoops"), the outer being wider than the inner. The outer hoop is supported and cushioned by a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart, planar rib members (ribs) and a planar central web member (web) which connects the hoops at their circumferential center lines. The web lies in a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the TNPT. The ribs extend axially along the inner and outer hoops, connecting them, and the edges of the ribs lie along the opposite faces of the web. The ribs are angled in the range from 15.degree. to 75.degree. to radial planes which intersect them at their radially inner ends, and the ribs on one side of the web are angled oppositely from those on the other. A rubber tread is secured to the outer surface of the outer hoop. The coaction of the structural elements of the TNPT provides a load-supporting structure which, in operation, is subjected to continuous compression and tensile forces as it travels over the ground. Deformation and buckling characteristics of the TNPT are derived from its unique trapezoidal shape which results in an interaction of the structural elements such that the outer hoop is not pulled under the wheel as much as the outer hoop would have been, had the shape of the TNPT been rectangular. The trapezoidal shape provides the TNPT with improved "handling" characteristics in hard turns without sacrificing a "ride" which is suprisingly similar to that of a conventional pneumatic tire.
