    摘要: An apparatus is for sensing the presure in a vehicle's tires while the tire is revolving. Tire pressure is tapped at the valve stem. Pressurized air is passed through a delivery tube from the valve stem to a pressure sensor which detects either a too high or a too low pressure from the tire. The delivery tube passes from the valve stem over the outer face of the tire to the center of the wheel. There it enters a hole bored along the axis of rotation of the wheel and passes through the wheel and suspension parts until it reaches a free space. Here the rotating tube connects to an inner, rotary master cylinder of the sensor. The master cylinder includes a piston acted upon by the pressurized air from the tube. A spring opposes the air pressure, so that the axial displacement of the piston is proportional to the tire pressure. An electrical contact is moved by the piston; it can touch either of two stationary contacts, whose positions correspond to over pressure or under pressure, and complete circuits to light warning lamps for the driver. The master cylinder spins within an outer case which is fastened to the wheel suspension and which contains the stationary contacts.

    摘要: An electrical brush contact apparatus for conveying electrical power from a vehicle power source to the wheels of vehicles having dual-tandem pairs of wheels includes a brush ring positioned at the juncture between the inner and outer rims of the front pair of dual-tandem vehicle wheels and the inner and outer rims of the rear pair of dual-tandem vehicle wheels. Each of the brush rings is electrically insulated from the rims with which it is associated by a flat insulating member or an insulating extrusion. Each pair of insulating extrusions and brush ring are coupled for rotation in concert with the wheels of the vehicle. Front and rear support members having idler pulleys thereon are suspended between the inner and outer pair of dual wheels and between the front and rear pair of tandem wheels. A belt, coupled between each one of the brush rings and an adjacent one of the idler pulleys, is driven by the brush ring. A central turnbuckle is employed to adjustably couple the front and rear support members, thereby providing adjustment for the tension of the belts driven by the brush rings. Electrical power from the vehicle is connected to the front and rear support members and thence to the brush rings by way of brushes that are connected to the front and rear support members and that are also in electrical contact with the brush rings. The electrical power conveyed to the rotating brush rings may then be connected to lighting systems, sensors, etc.

    摘要: A tire pressure monitor wherein a drop in the air pressure within the tire of a vehicle wheel is utilized to complete an electrical circuit including a signal lamp. The pressure in the tire fluidly communicates with a bellows mounted on the wheel and having a fixed end and a free end such that the tire pressure provides an expansive force on the free end of the bellows. A compressed helical spring bears against the free end of the bellows to provide a compressive force on the free end of the bellows so that the bellows is compressed when the tire pressure drops. The free end of the bellows is mechanically linked to a flexible strip which is supported, but not clamped, at two positions disposed about the linkage to the bellows so that the strip is flexed by a compression of the bellows. An extension of the strip is pivoted against a slip ring via the flexing to complete the electrical circuit.

    摘要: A system for giving warning of low trailer tire pressures to a tow vehicle driver. The parts of the installed system include a bank of signal lights, button contacts attached to the outer ends of the trailer axles, leaf contacts mounted within the dust caps of the trailer wheel hubs so as to bear against the button contacts at all times, tire pressure indicators which fit onto the trailer tire valve stems and have spring-loaded plungers movable between extended and retracted positions, and cap switches which fit over the outer ends of the indicators and have fixed and resiliently movable interior contacts biased to a normally closed position. The indicators are calibrated for predetermined tire pressures which urge the plungers to extended positions in which they hold the movable contacts away from the fixed contacts in the cap switches. The system is wired in circuit with the tow vehicle battery, and the tow vehicle and trailer frames, so that a drop in pressure in any trailer tire causes retraction of the plunger in the indicator on its valve stem, closure of the cap switch on the indicator and activation of one of the signal lights. This warns the driver of the low tire pressure and signals the location of the tire in need of attention. The trailer and tow vehicle frames, with the necessary conductor bridges, serve to provide a path of current flow between the cap switches and battery.
