    Abstract: An apparatus for inflating a tire including a base and a tire inflation line coupled with a pressure sensor. An air blast assembly includes a blast line fluidly coupled to a blast nozzle located on the base and configured to receive and direct pressurized gas from the blast line when the blast nozzle is in an air blast position relative to a tire and wheel assembly supported on the base. A device controller can monitor the pressure of a tire and wheel assembly and sense whether an effective tire bead seal has been formed. The device controller can generate a blast signal when no seal has been formed. A gas flow controller coupled to the air blast assembly and the device controller can be responsive to the blast signal to cause a blast of pressurized gas to be released from the blast nozzle to create an effective tire bead seal.

    Abstract: A tire cage is disclosed for containing the debris from a tire explosion. The cage includes a lightweight energy absorbing material for protecting structural members of the cage from tire explosion damage so that the cage is reusable. The energy absorbing material may be a metallic foam or other open celled structured material that is able to absorb large amounts of kinetic energy by permanently deforming. The cage is particularly effective in containing explosions of large equipment tires 6 to 12 feet in diameter and having a stored kinetic energy in a range of approximately 900 kilojoules to 1500 kilojoules.

    Abstract: In connection with the inflation of pneumatic vehicle tires the risk exists that the tire explodes and that the nearby operator or other nearby persons are slung away and severely injured by the pressure wave of the exploding tire. The invention provides for a security wall between the inflation area and an adjacent area, whereby the air pressure wave of an exploding tire will be effectively broken before reaching the adjacent area. Preferably, the security wall includes a doubled stretch metal net material with mutually oppositely oriented obliqueness of the opposed mesh strip portions is arranged as a wall element on at least one side of an inflation cage for receiving a tire to be inflated inside such a cage.

    Abstract: A safety cage for holding a pneumatic tire during inflation is provided in which a framework is formed having a base and a center post protruding therefrom for the placement of a pneumatic tire for inflation of the tire. Side frame members extend from the base member and have top frame members attached thereto which swing over onto the center post where a locking pin locks the top frame members together and to the center post for holding the pneumatic tire mounted on a wheel within the safety cage to prevent injury to a worker during the inflation operation.
