摘要:
An accumulator for storing rows of articles thereon includes a frame having upper and lower shafts rotatably supported thereon. A plurality of sprockets are mounted on each of the upper and lower shafts for rotation therewith. Each of the sprockets defines a radius. An electric motor is provided for selectively rotating the shafts and the sprockets mounted thereon. A plurality of roller chains are mounted on associated pairs of the upper and lower sprockets for movement when the shafts and sprockets are rotated. Each of the roller chains includes a plurality of spaced apart pins. A plurality of link are carried on each of the roller chains for movement therewith. Each of the links has a pair of apertures formed therethrough and a pair of arcuate slots formed therethrough. The apertures and the slots having respective first edges which define a straight line and respective second edges which define a radius. The radius defined by each of the links is substantially equal to the radius defined by each of the sprockets. Lift rails and lift finger subassemblies are secured to each of the links which define shelf positions for supporting rows of articles thereon. The lift finger subassemblies are oriented at a small angle relative to the links to retain the articles on each of the shelf positions.

A storage unit for elongated elements, particularly cigarettes, wherein a mass of cigarettes is supported on a first conveyor movable both ways through a loading-unloading station where the first conveyor is connected to a second conveyor by a connecting plate. A transversely articulated slide longer than the connecting plate travels together with the first conveyor, and, when unloading, is pushed by an end contact member on the first conveyor into engagement with the second conveyor, and travels together with the second conveyor so as to fully unload the storage unit.

A storage unit for storing articles being conveyed on a conveyor system. The storage unit is located laterally adjacent a main conveyor, and includes a plurality of spaced parallel secondary conveyors that are disposed laterally of the main conveyor. The storage unit also includes a lifting assembly composed of a plurality of generally parallel supports which are adapted to pass within the spaces between the secondary conveyors as the lifting assembly is moved vertically. To operate the storage unit, a stop member is moved to an obstructing position with respect to the main conveyor to stop a row or train of articles, and the train of articles is then pushed laterally from the main conveyor by a pusher unit onto the secondary conveyors where the train is conveyed to the ends of the secondary conveyors. In this manner, successive rows or trains of articles are transferred from the main conveyor to the secondary conveyors until the secondary conveyors are filled. The lifting assembly is then elevated causing the supports to pass upwardly between the secondary conveyors and pick the articles from the secondary conveyors and elevate the articles to a storage location. The operation is repeated with successive levels of the storage unit being filled with articles. To return the articles to the main conveyor, the secondary conveyors are operated in the reverse direction and the supports are lowered to deposit a row of articles from the supports onto the secondary conveyors which in turn return the articles to the main conveyor. Locator guides mounted adjacent the main conveyor are elevated as the row of articles is returned to the main conveyor to engage the trailing ends of the articles in the row and urge the articles back onto the main conveyor.

Surge control or accumulator apparatus and corresponding method include a relative downstream shift operation of a particular distance in combination with stopping the inflow of products at a particular upstream point such that product shear points are positively eliminated for accumulator product removal operations. An infeed stop mechanism traps the leading edge of an appropriate package while permitting other packages to be advanced beyond known shear points during the downstream shift operation. The infeed stop mechanism uses a slidable stop plate and upstream therefrom a wedge shaped guide member to cooperatively trap the leading edge of an approaching product in a pinchless operation, i.e., without applying clamping force to such product or to other products permitted to pass by the slidable stop plate. An outfeed mechanism includes an adjustable downstream shift feature for controllably shifting a row of products to be removed from a conveyor. The adjustable amount of downstream shift is related to the nominal length of individual products advancing along the conveyor and an additional predetermined distance added thereto. By shifting products downstream, for example, by about 150 percent of the nominal product length while setting the pinchless infeed trap, an appropriate row of products for removal are isolated from potential shear points, without depending on the precise number of products contained in such row. The surge control or accumulator method and apparatus results in safe handling of products regardless of the cumulative effect of unpredictable variations in the sizes of individual products being handled.

Apparatus is disclosed for the distribution of logs into the supply shafts of a plurality of successive grinders from a conveyor line consisting of several belt, chain or other conveyors placed in succession and carrying the logs transversely thereon. The logs are passed from one conveyor to the next and distributed into supply shafts through gaps between the conveyors, which are automatically started for moving the logs on the conveyor line so as to fill the supply shafts. The equipment previously known and used for this purpose has several disadvantages, e.g. the need for sorting of the logs, unnecessary operation of the conveyors, overfilling of the line, etc. The present invention obviates these drawbacks in that the line is provided with sensors for sensing the height of the stack of logs on the conveyor line above each grinder supply shaft, at least two sensors being located above the level of the conveyors so as to control the conveyors adjacent to the shaft, so that they will be started, in motion either simultaneously or separately towards the supply shaft therebetween to ensure that there is always a sufficient supply of logs at the grinder.

The feeding of articles, especially (small) packs (10), to a processing station, especially a collecting and packaging station (21), can be temporarily be interrupted as a result of faults in the region of the latter. To prevent damage to the packs (10) because the pack conveyor (11) continues to run, a number of packs (10), in particular a build-up series (27), is temporarily lifted off the pack conveyor (11). The following packs (10) are fed to a pack store (42) in pack groups (22).

A system for conveying cigarette packets includes a reversible compartmented accumulator (AC) arranged so that in normal operation packets are pushed by retractable pressure bands (18) through an aligned uppermost compartment (13) during passage from a packing machine (PM) to a wrapping machine (WM). To load the accumulator (AC) packets are stopped at the downstream end by a gate (106) so as to assemble a batch of packets in the aligned compartment (13) for storage by transverse indexing of the accumulator (AC). As part of the loading sequence detectors (88, 107) determine the presence of a complete batch of packets at least partly upstream of the compartment (13). Before the loading sequence begins the uppermost compartment (13) is emptied of packets by an unloading conveyor (70). To unload the accumulator (AC) the infeed of packets is stopped and the unloading conveyor (70) removes packets from successive compartments (13) indexed into the aligned position.

A buffer storage apparatus includes a mechanism for removing a product travelling from one location to another, and an elongate reservoir belt movable in thedirection of its elongation from a stowed position wound on a spool, past the removing mechanism to receive the product and thereafter to a product storage position where the charged reservoir belt is wound on a furtherspool. When the reservoir belt is being wound round one spool the reservoir is being unwound from the other. The reservoir belt itself is preferably provided with pockets or dividers which, apart from separating the articles, serve as spacers between layers of wound belt and thus eliminate the possibility of articles being compressed between layers of conveyor belt wound round the loaded conveyor spool/drum. The system is designed to handle a variety of sizes and shapes of articles such as rectangular products like chocolate bars or cigarette packages, bottles, cylindrical or rod-shaped articles such as cigarettes, tin cans, etc.
