摘要： A pistol-shaped automatically retracting chalk-line dispenser comprises a three-member housing enclosing two separate chambers. The upper, chalk-receiving chamber, contains a double-walled chalk-line spool and a line-guiding roller. A seal on the chalk-line spool shaft prevents chalk dust from entering the second chamber, which contains drive gears, the line-retracting spring, and a trigger-actuated latching brake mechanism. In one embodiment, a finger-like projection from the trigger is initially brought to bear on a rotating cap to brake the rate of line retraction as the trigger is pulled rearwardly. If the trigger is pulled back more than a predetermined distance, the finger-like projection snaps into engagement between the teeth of a sprocket attached to the cap and thus locks the retraction mechanism.

摘要： A chalk box assembly for providing an automated retracting chalk line comprising: a chalk box housing; a spring assembly within the housing; a spool for retaining a chalk line within the housing, where the spring assembly is attached to the spool and provides for the retraction of the chalk line; a chalk compartment within the housing, where chalk is stored within the chalk compartment; and a retraction button engaged with the spring assembly, where the button causes the release of the spring assembly for the retraction of the chalk line. The chalk box assembly according to the present invention may further include a chalk line guide and a chalk fill door. In one particular embodiment of the present invention, the chalk box assembly further includes a belt clip on one side thereof.

When the line or cord is retracted by the spring, a hysteresis loop is formed in the conductive material by the magnet causing an eddy current which slows down the rate of retraction of the line to provide safety in the rate of return of the line or cord.

摘要： A chalk line holder comprises a housing having a partition dividing the housing into two compartments. Each of a pair of substantially coaxially mounted spools is rotatably mounted in a corresponding one of the compartments. A chalk line of a first desired color is wound on one of the spools and a chalk line of a second desired color is wound on the other spool. Coupling devices are provided in the spools for selectively coupling a shaft for rotating the spools to a desired one of the spools for separate rotation. A handle outside the housing is coupled to the shaft for manually rotating the spools.
