    摘要: The invention relates to a projectile (5) with a frangible material, for short-range ammunition. To prevent any significant losses of precision and prevent the internal ballistic loading from being so great that it leads to the destruction of the projectile, it is suggested according to the invention that the projectile (5) consists of a shell (4) made of brass, the shell (4) has, seen in the direction of flight, a front cylindrical receiving space (4a) and a rear cylindrical receiving space (4b), the two receiving spaces (4a, 4b) are arranged coaxially with the longitudinal axis (15) of the projectile and are separated from each other by a partition wall (16), the partition wall (16) forms the floor (18) of the front receiving space (4a), and a core (1) of a frangible material is inserted in the front receiving space (4a), the tip (17) of the core (1) protrudes out of the front receiving space (4a), and at least one predetermined breaking point (2), running around the circumference of the shell (4), is formed in the shell (4) in the region of the partition wall (16).

    摘要: A large caliber, frangible, training projectile imitates, for training purposes, the corresponding tactical projectile. To enable fragmentation of the training projectile at impact, some embodiments of the frangible projectile are partially or entirely made of a material with a lower yield strength than the material used in the counterpart tactical projectile. Some embodiments of the frangible projectile may include portions that are sectioned, welded, or provided with stress risers. Some embodiments of the frangible projectile may include high density particles suspended in a weaker medium. The fragmentation methods may be applied to the overall mass of the projectile, or to a portion of the projectile.

Fins are mounted to the trunnions. A line of frangibility between adjacent trunnions includes a rear notch, a circular opening and a front notch, preferably all axially aligned. Upon impact of the projectile with a target, the fin ring breaks apart at the lines of frangibility and separates from the projectile.

In some embodiments, the ballistic zinc alloy is a zinc-aluminum alloy that includes additional alloy components that collectively enhance the properties of the ballistic zinc alloy for use in firearm projectiles.

    摘要: A training cartridge projectile for use in either a plastic cartridge case or a conventional metal cartridge case is disclosed that contains no explosive material. The projectile has an insert having a body portion and a front end, a container overmolded onto the body portion of the insert, a frangible ogive fastened to the front end of the tubular insert; and a payload module within the ogive in front of the container carrying a nonexplosive signature material for providing a visual indication of projectile impact to an observer upon projectile impact with an object. The module includes a hollow frangible ampoule containing the signature material, and a generally disc shaped base member engaging the insert and closing the ampoule. The base member preferably has a set of axially extending vanes engaging the signature material during spin-up as the projectile is accelerated through the bore of the weapon firing the projectile.

Metal pellets contained within the compartments are pressed outward and pierce the compartment walls. This allows for mixing of chemical materials contained within the compartments, so that the materials substantially react by the time the projectile strikes a target. The chemical materials may be a pair of chemi-luminescent components, or components that create heat for thermal marking.

    摘要: A frangible metal article such as a bullet and a method for making it. The frangible metal article is formed from a mixture of metal particles and metal or metalloid binder material which is compacted into the desired shape, heated to a temperature above that needed to form at least one intermetallic compound but below the temperature of joining of the metal particles by sintering and below the temperature of formation of substantial amounts of a ductile alloy of the metal of the particles and the metal or metalloid binder material and then cooled. When such articles are formed into bullets they have sufficient strength to maintain their integrity during firing but disintegrate into powder on impact and can be formulated to be lead-free.

    摘要: In a practice ammunition including a self-destruct, fin-stabilized subprotile containing an elongated body composed of a plurality of mating segments having means for releasably holding said segments together, the means includes a heat sensitive nose cap including a pyrotechnic composition, which contains a fuel and an oxidizing agent. The nose cap holds the forward portions of the segments together, and due to the pyrotechnic composition, is adapted to burn and disintegrate essentially instantaneously in flight at a predetermined aerodynamic temperature to release the segments, whereby the distance at which the subprojectile self-destructs in its trajectory can be realized more accurately and reliably.
