    摘要: A method of onboard determination of vehicle wheel alignment is provided. In a first step, a lateral acceleration signal is generated, using an accelerometer mounted on the vehicle wheel. In a second step, a first lateral acceleration value ay Acc is derived from a first portion of the lateral acceleration signal, which is during a longitudinal acceleration a0 of the vehicle. In a third step, a second lateral acceleration value ay CS is derived from a second portion of the lateral acceleration signal, which is measured when the longitudinal acceleration has ceased and the vehicle is travelling at constant speed. In a fourth step, the magnitude of the longitudinal acceleration a0 associated with the first portion of the lateral acceleration signal is measured. In a fifth step, a toe angle α of the vehicle wheel is determined according to the following relationship: α = arcsin ( a Y Acc - a Y CS - a 0 ⁢ cos ⁡ ( arcsin ⁡ ( a Y CS g ) ) ) · 180 π where g is the gravitational acceleration constant.

    摘要: A procedure for measuring and adjusting an alignment of each axle of a trailer or semi-trailer while the trailer or semi-trailer is coupled to a tow vehicle by a hitch, tow bar, kingpin, or fifth wheel hitch. Measurements of the alignment of each axle of the trailer or semi-trailer are acquired from wheel-mounted sensor means utilizing either directly or indirectly a reference line of the trailer and an established reference point on the tow vehicle. A thrust angle of a first trailer or semi-trailer axle is referenced directly to the established reference line, while scrub angles associated with additional trailer or semi-trailer axles are referenced either directly or indirectly to the first trailer or semi-trailer axle, and indirectly to the established reference point. Any necessary adjustments are made to the first trailer or semi-trailer axle to bring the axle thrust angle to within a specification tolerance, and then to the scrub angle of each additional axle.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for measuring the alignment of vehicle wheels includes a light source having two beams projecting on opposite directions. The source is mounted on the wheel approximately perpendicular to the wheel axis. Measuring scales are mounted along the paths of the beams in front of and behind the wheels. When taking measurements, the wheel is rotated 180.degree. after a first measurement and a second reading of the scales is made. The difference between the two sets of readings is used to determine the deviation of the light beam from the perpendicular to the wheel axis and this deviation is compensated for in measuring the wheel alignment. Optical sighting means such as a camera can be used in place of the two beam light source.

    摘要: The invention relates to the alignment of motor vehicle wheels and axles. A first embodiment is disclosed for an apparatus comprising a means to hook over an adjustable mounting shaft on a steer wheel providing at least partial rotation thereof, a transverse suspension member attached to the hanger with a light source retained in a bracket and rotatably mounted on a non adjustable mounting shaft at one end thereof and a counterweight at the other. The connections of the hook means and the light source bracket to their respective mounting shafts are such that the mounting shaft is held between a clamping means and two points on each side of the hook means and light source bracket respectively. The clamping means disclosed is a threaded member with a spring loaded ball in one end which engages a circumferential groove on the respective mounting shaft. The second embodiment substantially comprises the light source bracket of the first embodiment adapted for mounting directly onto a directionally adjustable mounting shaft attached to a non-steering wheel of a motor vehicle. Preferred embodiments use laser light sources and include a calibration means to vary the orientation of said light source.
