摘要: A thermal alarm clock including an alarm clock controller that activates a heating device to wake a slumbering person. The thermal alarm clock incorporates traditional alarm, clock, and radio functions as well. The heating device is located adjacent a sleeping person and can be activated with, or instead of, an audible alarm. A slumbering person will be gently awakened by the heat of the device instead of the jarring sound from an audible alarm clock. The thermal alarm clock is also effective at waking a single person from a plurality of sleepers and is effective for users with special needs, such as the hearing impaired or blind. In one embodiment, the thermal alarm clock incorporates sensors and circuitry to monitor a user's presence.

摘要: A portable device includes a case having wall portions, a battery arranged within the case, and a polymer membrane arranged between at least one of the wall portions and the battery. The polymer membrane couples the battery to the at least one of the wall portions. The polymer membrane has a property of elastically changing at least one of the thickness and the length in a planar direction by being deformed in response to voltage application and restoring its original shape in response to the stoppage of the voltage application. The battery is caused to reciprocate by applying a voltage that changes periodically to the polymer membrane.

摘要: A device for converting pulses generated by a 7-segment, 12-hour clock unit of a standard electronic timepiece into a sequence of nonoptical time-indicating signals. The device comprises binary counter means for counting minutes and groups of 5-minute multiples each, a parallel binary-to-serial pulse converter for converting the parallel hour, 5-minute-multiple and minute signals from the 7-segment display unit and from the counter means respectively, into serial pulses distinctly representing hours, 5-minute multiples and minutes respectively. The device also comprises amplifier means for amplifying the serial pulses and aural or tactile sensation-producing device to render the pulses audible or palpable.
