    摘要: A method for selectively enabling writing of data multiple times onto a write-once read-many optical disk by a host system, the disk having a disk type indicator, and each sector having a SWF field and a flag field and user data, wherein new data bits replace existing data bits in a one-for-one ratio without mapping, comprising the steps of: reading a disk type indicator; setting a firmware flag allowing writing to the disk if the disk type is erasable WORM; receiving a write command from the host system, the command specifying a sector to write to; reading the contents of the disk SWF and flag fields for the sector; overwriting all user data on the sector with all zeroes if the firmware flag is set; replacing every user data bit in the sector with a zero in a one-for-one ratio without mapping; and resetting the contents of the disk SWF and flag fields to indicate the sector is available for writing. Apparatus for selectively enabling writing of data multiple times onto a write-once read-many optical disk by a host system, the disk having a disk type indicator, and each sector having a SWF field and a flag field and user data, wherein new data bits replace existing data bits in a one-for-one ratio without mapping, comprising an optical disk drive having: a spindle motor rotating an optical disk; an optical assembly/laser generating a laser beam adapted to heat a minute region on the optical disk; a bias magnet affecting the polarity of the heated region; a write/read channel driving the optical assembly/laser and bias magnet; a write/read controller adapted to process a unique erase command and thereby controlling the optical assembly/laser and bias magnet to write every user data bit of a sector to zero in a one-for-one ratio without mapping; and a small computer system interface receiving write commands from a host system.

The method includes the steps of recording by applying a laser beam to an area of the recording medium at a power level corresponding to one of these operating temperatures and erasing by applying a laser beam to an area of the recording medium at a different power level corresponding to the other of the operating temperatures, while applying a bias magnetic field to the magneto-optical recording medium with the same magnetization direction during both recording and erasing, the intensity of the bias magnetic field being greater than the coercive forces of the first and second magnetic layers at the lower operation temperature.

    摘要: In a magneto-optic memory device for recording information on a magneto-optic recording medium having a magneto-optic recording film irradiated by a first small diameter light spot and a second larger diameter light spot which is substantially concentric with the first light spot, the temperature of a portion of the recording film around a recording position is changed by the irradiation of the second light spot in accordance with an information signal to be recorded, between a temperature, which is lower than a compensation temperature of the recording film and produces spontaneous magnetization of the recording film having intensity necessary for recording information, and a temperature which is higher than the compensation temperature of the recording film and produces spontaneous magnetization of the recording film having intensity necessary for recording information, and the intensity of the first light spot is increased to raise the temperature of the recording position of the recording film so as to reach near the Curie temperature of the recording film, thereby erasing old information and recording new information at the same time.

    摘要: An erasing beam B1 and a recording beam B2 emitted from a laser diode array 20 are focused on different tracks of a optical magnetic disk D, the erasing beam B1 being focused on a track located ahead of a track on which the recording beam B2 is focused. The reflected beams of the erasing beam B1 and the recording beam B2 are separated respectively into two polarized components by means of a polarized beam splitter 17 and the polarized components are received by photo sensor means 23 and 24. Based on outputs of the photo sensor means 23 and 24, an address signal, a focus error signal and a tracking error signal are obtained. At the time of reproduction, the laser diode array 20 emits a reproducing beam so that the photo sensor means provide a reproducing signal.

    摘要: A magneto-optical recording medium with wide operating margins is disclosed. The magneto-optical recording medium includes a vertical magnetic films of exchange-coupled liminated structure composed of a first magnetic layer with a high coercive force H.sub.H and a low Curie temperature T.sub.L and a second magnetic layer with a lower coercive force H.sub.L and a higher Curie temperature T.sub.H in comparison with those of the first magnetic layer. The first magnetic layer has a gradient of the Curie temperature along the direction of thickness of the layer so that the Curie temperature is higher at a position closer to the second magnetic layer. The recording method utilizing the recording medium according to the present invention is also disclosed.
