A record carrier for storing a digital work (DW) includes access information (KLT) for gaining access to the digital work and a secondary channel (HC) in which secondary channel information (KLK) is stored which is used for encrypting, decrypting or verifying the access information (KLT). In order to prevent, hinder or discourage tampering with the access information (KLT), the secondary channel (HC) is stored on the record carrier on substantially the same physical location as the access information (KLT). In a preferred embodiment, the secondary channel information (KLK) is changed when the access information (KLT) has changed. This realizes a record carrier for which a replay-attack is prevented.

A method for managing copy protection information of a recording medium is disclosed. A data stream encrypted using copy protection information is recorded in a data area of an optical disc such as a write once optical disc or a rewritable optical disc, while the copy protection information and a drive ID are recorded together in a key locker of the optical disc. When a data stream of an optical disc is reproduced, reading and decryption of the copy protection information is selectively performed depending on whether the drive ID recorded in the key locker and a drive ID managed in an optical disc drive, into which the optical disc is inserted, are identical. This prevents contents such as broadcast programs recorded in an optical disc from being illegally duplicated.

The present invention relates to a method of protecting user information against manipulations. In order to provide a high level of protection against any kind of manipulation without increasing the overhead significantly a method is proposed comprising the steps of: a) storing said user infonnation in user channel packets of a user channel, b) assigning state infonnation to said user channel packets said state infonnation being used to indicate if a user channel packet has been manipulated and/or is unstable or not, and c) storing said state information assigned to said user channel packets in an additional hidden channel embedded in said user channel, said state information assigned to a user channel packet being stored in the associated hidden channel packet. In the plant, when it is determined that the contents have not been encrypted in accordance with Info_Sheet, a module encrypts the contents with different keys. A key locker creating portion groups the plurality of keys with which the contents have been encrypted, encrypts grouped keys with a disc key, and creates a key locker. A disc image creating portion creates image data to be recorded on a product CD with contents of a first session and a second session and the key locker. In accordance with the image data, the CD is produced. Since keys with which contents have been encrypted are grouped and encrypted, the keys can be prevented from leaking out.

There is disclosed a data carrier (20) having content (22) stored thereon. Access to the content (22) while on the data carrier (20) is controlled by a “copy limited” and “play never” right. This combination of rights allows the carrier (20) to be used, for example, as a jukebox loader. The content cannot be played from the carrier (20), but it can be copied to a jukebox (30) for playing in the jukebox (30). This can be used to provide a dedicated, reusable or throw-away jukebox loader disk that allows a provider to maintain control over the content (22), while allowing the end user sufficient freedom to use the content (22). The data carrier (20) may be embodied in a disk compatible with the CD2 format. A corresponding method of distributing content (22) is also disclosed.
