The encoder in such system generates a sequence of tones in which every other tone is selected from a first group of tones in one band of frequencies, and the remaining tones in the sequence are selected from a second group of tones in another band of frequencies. A manual selector enables external selection of the frequencies of other tones which represent other information relative to the encoder.

Audio delay circuitry is operative in response to operation of the control circuitry to delay audio signals coupled from a microphone by the first predetermined time period and couple the delayed audio signals to the transmitter for transmission thereby. The address signals of the succeeding message are transmitted simultaneously with the terminal portion of the audio signals in the preceding message.
