A solid plastic sheath encases each of the core members and a plurality of plastic webs extends between adjacent pairs of core members. The plastic sheath, which encases the electrically conductive wire core member, includes sufficient electrically conductive filler to permit passage of electrical charges from the electrically conductive wire to an outer surface of the sheath. The plastic sheath encasing the electrically conductive wire core member can have a color contrasting with the plurality of plastic webs. The webbing outer surface has a pattern of ridges or grooves arranged to simulate a weathered wood surface.

A device to prevent incursion of wild elephants into human populated areas, and thereby protect the lives of both wild elephants and humans living in close proximity to elephant refuges, is disclosed. The device incorporates a series of rollers that discourage an elephant from crossing the device. Multiple units may be linked together to form a barrier of any desired length. The border on the frame of each unit is protected by a guard that pinches the foot of an elephant attempting to cross over on the butted edges where two units meet. Alterative embodiments of the device may include roller protrusions, a chemical repellent dispersant, and an electrified conductor wire.

To reduce the tendency for high center of mass vehicles to roll, or vault over a guardrail barrier or dive under it, the guardrail barrier has outer curved portions selected to adjust the moment of inertia of the guardrail barrier by providing a sufficiently high moment of inertia to slow the vehicle but sufficiently low to avoid excessive force against the occupant compartment. A central portion connecting the outer curves sized to provide an effective depth of 12.25 inches to capture high bumper vehicles and small vehicles and an area of 1.99 inches to provide rigidity enough to the curved portions to avoid flattening and penetration. The outer curves are asymmetrical.

The first and second electrical-conducting members are operatively connected to a source of electrical energy whereby the system is operable to complete a circuit across the electrical-conducting members through the rodent's body as the rodent attempts to traverse the barrier members.

Each of the first ends of the rods is movably extendable in one of the bores. The annular member is positioned around the vertical implement and the elongated rods extended to abut the vertical implement.

The collar is disconnected from the leash by activating the mechanism in the handle assembly of the leash. The collar is fitted with a short cable which extends generally radially from the collar. A small cylinder or sphere is attached to the free end of this cable. There is a flared fitting at the end of the leash opposite to the handle end. The collar and leash are connected by trapping the cylinder or sphere in the flared fitting. The leash is a sheathed cable. The tension loads in the leash are carried by the cable. One end of the cable is anchored in the leash handle. There is a second cylinder or sphere attached to its other end and located in the flared fitting when the leash and collar are connected. The second cylinder or sphere retains the first in the flared fitting which is attached to the sheath. When the mechanism in the handle is activated, the mechanism moves the sheath along the cable so that the flared fitting is moved and no longer surrounds the cylinders (or spheres) and the one can no longer retain the other and disconnection is effected. In one embodiment of the invention the mechanism in the handle is reset by pulling the sheath out of the handle.

The barrier has a tacky and waterproof compound, preferably an asphaltic compound, protected by a release liner which is peeled from the web immediately prior to installing the web on building surfaces. A layer of stainless steel mesh is used to inhibit passage of termites. The invention comprises a protective release liner, a first layer of tacky compound, a fiber reinforced material (preferably fiberglass), a second layer of tacky compound, a stainless steel mesh, and a layer of protective film.

A spacer is shown for spacing a post from a rail used alongside a road. The spacer is formed from an injection-molded plastic honeycomb structure. The honeycomb structure has a number of substantially parallel, internal webs, with the internal webs extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the post and the rail. The spacer can be formed with a post-interfacing side of the spacer having a stepped configuration that allows the spacer to engage with a variety of different shaped posts. Each of the substantially parallel internal webs of the spacer is provided with the stepped configuration at the post-interfacing end of each of the webs. A width of the bottom surface of the stepped surface is selected for engagement with a standard width flange on an I-beam type post. A width of an intermediate ledge surface on the stepped surface is selected for engagement with standard wooden square posts. The stepped surface is also provided with chamfered surfaces that fall along a locus of points having a radius approximately equal to the outer radius of a standard round wooden post. The spacer also has an internal partition extending between the post-interfacing side and the rail-interfacing side of the spacer and defining an opening through which a connector can be passed. The internal partition can be offset relative to a central longitudinal axis of the spacer so that a connector passing through the opening will not interfere with the central web of an I-beam type spacer.
