摘要: An apparatus is guided by a guidewire within a luminal structure of a patient for receiving a radiation dose delivery wire with a radiation source attached to its distal end, for treating a disease process. The apparatus includes a balloon catheter with a blind lumen sealed at its distal end and a guidewire lumen extending therethrough to accept a guidewire. The blind lumen is adapted to accept the radiation delivery wire into its proximal end. In a method of treating the disease process with the apparatus, the guidewire is inserted into the guidewire lumen of the balloon catheter, the balloon catheter is inserted into the patient's luminal structure at least as far as a predetermined section of the luminal structure, the radiation dose delivery wire is inserted into the blind lumen in the balloon catheter and moved a predetermined distance therein for a predetermined period of time, and, after the period has elapsed, the radiation dose delivery wire is removed from the blind lumen.

摘要: This invention provides, e.g., a catheter with a threaded loop type snare tool for retrieval of objects from blood vessels and/or body cavities. The snare tool of the invention provides, e.g., independently maneuverable probe wires and snare wires to encircle and releasably snare foreign objects inside human and veterinary patients. The invention further provides methods of using the catheter of the invention to retrieve objects from patients.

摘要: An improved catheter assembly and method are provided for delivering guide wires to vessels. The catheter assembly of the present invention has the feature of containing two guide wire lumens in a single catheter to prevent wire wrapping and crossing of the wires. A torquing member is provided to assist in rotation of the catheter. The assembly allows for the delivery of a wire into a side branch vessel that is at a steep angle with respect to a main vessel. The assembly also provides for the delivery of two guide wires to a bifurcation.

摘要: An improved catheter assembly is provided for advancing a pair of guide wires to a bifurcated vessel in preparation for an interventional procedure. The delivery assembly of the present invention has the novel feature of containing two guide wire lumens in a single catheter to prevent wire wrapping and crossing of the wires. The tracking guide wire lumen and the integrated guide wire lumen run substantially parallel to each other throughout their lengths, and the tracking guide wire lumen and the integrated guide wire lumen do not move apart with respect to each other as the catheter is manipulated. The invention provides for a clip for clipping the wires at their proximal ends outside of the patient, thus helping to prevent wire wrapping, wire crossing, and confusion between wires. The assembly allows for the delivery of two wires to a bifurcation so that the bifurcation is ready for an interventional procedure, such as the implantation of a bifurcated stent.

摘要: A transformable catheter includes a sheath having a length which is a substantial fraction of the entire length of the transformable catheter and a bore therethrough. A preformed inner catheter having a complex curve formed into the distal end thereof is disposed in the sheath bore. By axially moving the inner catheter with respect to the sheath, various tip shapes may be achieved. At least one wire runs from the proximal end of the sheath to the vicinity of the distal end of the sheath to selectively deflect the distal tip of the sheath as desired by the user to assist in reformation and transformation of the tip of the catheter. By suitable manipulation of the wire and of the inner catheter with respect to the sheath, the shape of the exposed portion of the distal end of the inner catheter may be transformed to any of a variety of shapes.
