摘要: An electrical stimulation device method provides for exact repeatable positioning of stimulation pads onto a body part. The device includes a flexible member for contacting a body part and hook/loop members for tightly supporting the flexible member against the body part. At least one electrical bus is provided which may include a connector for enabling connection of the bus to an electrical lead wire and an electrical contact disposed on the inside of the flexible member. A conductive pad is provided which has dimensions substantially smaller than the dimensions of the flexible member and includes a cover adhesive layer for removably adhering the conductive pad to the flexible member inside with a first side of the cover layer covering the bus contact and an electrical communication therewith. A current controlling media is adhered to a second side of the cover layer and a base layer disposed on the current controlling media is provided for removably adhering the conductive pad to the body part.

摘要: An electrode includes a conductive adhesive layer and a conductive foil layer having a void therein. One such electrode may be mounted in conjunction with another electrode upon a release liner having one or more openings therein to facilitate electrical signal exchange between electrodes. A release liner may include a moisture permeable and/or moisture absorbent membrane. A release liner may alternatively include a conductive backing layer. A release liner may also include an insulating swatch covering an opening. A release liner may be implemented as a foldable sheet, such that multiple electrodes may be mounted upon the same side of the foldable sheet. A medical device to which the mounted electrodes are coupled may characterize the electrical path between the electrodes. The medical device may perform a variety of electrical measurements, including real and/or complex impedance measurements. Based upon one or more measurements, the medical device may provide an indication of electrode condition, fitness for use, and/or an estimated remaining lifetime. An electrode condition indicator, which may form a portion of the medical device, may generate, present, or display electrode condition and/or estimated remaining lifetime information via a visual metaphor, such as a fuel gauge.

摘要: Electrodes are capable of delivering synchronized cardioversion and pacing energy pulses as well as defibrillation energy pulses to a patient. The electrodes are also appropriate for use with an automatic or semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED) as well as defibrillators capable of cardioversion and manual defibrillators. The electrodes have a plurality of conductors sized for delivering electrotherapy to patients of different sizes. Preferably, conductors can be used singly or in combination for therapy. The electrodes may also be separated to form electrodes of smaller dimension for application to a smaller patient.

摘要: A transcutaneous medical electrode for use with devices for introduce electrical signals into areas of the body or for receiving electrical signals from body areas. The electrode includes a flexible electrically conductive sheet having an electrically conductive adhesive layer on one surface. A female connector having an opening for receiving a conventional lead wire tip is secured to the opposite surface of the sheet. A sheathed male connector includes a tip for insertion into the female connector opening without exposing the tip to touching by the operator of the device or the patient. The female connector is preferably tubular with an approximately axial opening. The female connector may be secured to the sheet, parallel to the sheet, with the male connector receiving end extending beyond and edge of the sheet. Alternatively, the female connector may be secured to the sheet in a bent arrangement with the male connector receiving end extending away from the sheet at an angle and the other end bonded to the sheet.

摘要: A medical lead adaptor that provides a rapid, secure, insulated connection of the lead connector end assembly of a cardiac lead having electrodes adapted to be placed in or on the body with an external medical device. The adaptor connector assembly is configured with an elongated receptacle to accept a bipolar, in-line, or a unipolar lead connector end sharing common dimensions. The elongated receptacle includes connector pin and ring receptacle contacts spaced apart from one another therein. In a preferred embodiment, an elongated slot that extends laterally of the elongated receptacle cooperates with a lock mechanism to allow the lateral insertion of the lead connector end assembly, with a stylet wire inserted into the cardiac lead body lumen, into the elongated receptacle. When inserted therein, the lead connector ring and/or pin are nested into contact with the ring and/or pin receptacle contacts and are held there by the lock mechanism. Several embodiments are disclosed of alternate configurations of the elongated receptacle, receptacle contacts and lock mechanism.

摘要: An inflatable cochlear electrode array adapted for insertion into a human cochlear includes a flexible carrier on which a multiplicity of spaced-apart electrode contacts are carried, preferably along one side, e.g., a medial side, of the carrier. The flexible carrier also includes an inflatable compartment or section. In one embodiment, the inflatable section is located at the distal tip of the electrode array on a side of the flexible carrier that is opposite the electrode contacts. In another embodiment, the inflatable compartment or section is located along at least one half of the full length of the flexible carrier, forming a spine. In either embodiment, the electrode is readily inserted into the cochlea to a desired depth while the inflatable compartment or section remains in a deflated state. Thereafter, a desired modiolus-hugging position is achieved by inflating the inflatable compartment or section by injecting therein a suitable biocompatible fluid. A method of making an inflatable cochlear electrode is also disclosed.
