The latch devices are initially positioned on the inner tailgate module but, following assembly of the inner tailgate module to the outer tailgate assembly, the latch devices are fixedly secured to the outer structural sidewalls defined by the outer tailgate assembly.

摘要： Trucks and other work machines require strong and easily operated and maintained tailgate assemblies. Often, the operating structure of the tailgate assembly requires precise alignment and relatively large clearance space to operate effectively. The operating structure is also commonly under great stresses from the tension and compression forces that power the operating structure to move the tailgate. A tailgate assembly including a tailgate and an; operating structure is provided. The tailgate is attached to a platform in a hinge d manner and allowed to move pivotally with respect to the platform. The operating structure includes a linear actuator and a linking member. The linear actuator is attached to the platform. The linking member has a first end portion pivotally attached to the linear actuator, a fulcrum pivotally attached to the platform, and a second end portion attached to a tracking member. The tracking member is adapted to contact the tailgate and to move vertically with respect to the tailgate. The use of the tracking member helps eliminate stresses and alignment requirements in the operating structure. The linking member may be used in a relatively small clearance space. The tailgate assembly of the present invention is a robust design, suitable to a high stress work machine environment.

The tailgate system is a split system that enables totally separate operation of a tailgate door for each compartment, but which includes automatic latching and maintains a relatively low center of gravity with reference to the vehicle regardless of the position of the doors.

The securing frame is mountable onto the pick-up vehicle, such that when in a closed position, the securing frame is positioned generally astride a tailgate and rear canopy window of the pick-up vehicle, and when secured in such closed position, prevents the tailgate and/or rear canopy window from being opened, and when in an open position, allows the tailgate and/or the rear canopy window to be opened so as to allow loading and unloading. The securing frame may be one-piece or two-piece. The two-piece securing frame comprises two gates, each for mounting on an opposite side of the rear of the pick-up and gates lockable to each other in the closed position.

摘要： A four bar link is provided between a walled cargo area of a truck and a rigid rear cargo door. The effective length of the lower link of the four bar linkage is longer than that of the upper link such that the motion of the door is generally up and over the top of the truck body. An eccentric cam is joined to the upper link with a tensioned spring extending around the cam such that the spring slackens as the door opens. The cam is configured so that, as the door is opened, the spring slackens more slowly initially then more quickly. This allows the door to be moved initially mostly outwardly before moving significantly upwardly and still be effectively counterbalanced throughout its motion.

摘要： Apparatus are provided which utilize the tailgate of a vehicle, such as a pick-up truck, to create an aerodynamic windspoiler for the vehicle. In one form, the apparatus includes a housing is pivotally attached to the vehicle, and a rod having a first end supported within the housing and a second end attached to the tailgate, wherein the rod is capable of being slidably extended and retracted from the housing. Ideally, the positioning of the rod relative to the housing is controlled relative to the speed of the vehicle to adjust the inclination of the tailgate. This may be accomplished utilizing either an electrically driven motor or an hydraulic cylinder. In another form, the apparatus includes a rotatable shaft attached to a sheet of stretch resistant material. Upon extending and attaching the sheet of material to the tailgate, a windspoil is created.
