摘要: Cool burning hydrate fuels are provided for gas generant compositions for automotive inflatable restraint systems. The cool burning hydrate fuel is a compound comprising carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, a transition metal, and optionally nitrogen. The cool burning hydrate fuel is a transition metal salt of an organic compound or transition metal complex salt having (i) at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of: amide, imide, hydroxyl, carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof, (ii) an oxygen-to-carbon mole ratio of greater than or equal to about 0.5, (iii) at least one-half a water molecule of hydration, and (iv) an exothermic heat of formation of at least about −400 KJ/mole. The fuel may have a water release temperature of ≥about 140° C. The cool burning hydrate fuel may be one or more of copper cyanurate dihydrate, a copper melamine oxalate dihydrate, and a copper malonate hydrate.

摘要: A well livening downhole tool for the in-situ production of nitrogen is provided. The well livening downhole tool may produce nitrogen in-situ in a well to lighten the fluid column and lift the well fluids. The well livening downhole tool may include sodium azide and other reactants to produce nitrogen and scavenge other reaction products to produce alkaline silicate and water. The well-livening downhole tool may include multiple modules each having nitrogen-producing reactants and ignition components such that each module may be activated independently to produce nitrogen at different depths. A process for lifting the well fluids using the well livening downhole tool is also provided.

摘要: A setting tool having a tool body, a chamber configured to contain a non-explosive fuel configured to generate gas and plasma, a cavity, a bleed sub located between the chamber and the cavity. The bleed sub is configured to bleed pressure from the chamber to the cavity after the non-explosive fuel has been initiated. The setting tool also includes a piston disposed within the cavity oriented to stroke in a first direction after the non-explosive fuel has been initiated. The piston may divide the cavity into an upper volume that may receive the pressure increase from the bleed sub and a lower volume. The setting tool may also include a shaft mechanically connected to the piston within the lower volume of the cavity. The shaft may include a dampening conduit configured to drain a fluid from the lower volume after the non-explosive fuel has been initiated.

摘要: A setting tool for deploying a downhole tool within a wellbore is described herein. The setting tool uses an in situ non-explosive gas-generating power source to generate high-pressure gas, which drives a mechanical linkage to actuate the deployment of the downhole tool. According to certain embodiments the non-explosive gas-generating setting tool contains no hydraulic stages and may contain only a single piston. The setting tool may be fitted to provide different stroke lengths and can provide usable power over a greater percentage of its stroke length, compared to setting tools using explosive/pyrotechnic power sources. Methods of using a non-explosive gas-generating setting tool to deploy a downhole tool within a wellbore are also disclosed.

摘要: Gas generants comprising copper are provided that have improved slagging ability. In certain aspects, the gas generants include a fuel, an oxidizer comprising basic copper nitrate, and a large particle size endothermic slag-forming component, such as aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3). The gas generants may be cool burning, e.g., having a maximum flame temperature at combustion (Tc)≤about 1,900K (1,627° C.). The disclosure also provides methods of enhancing slag formation for a gas generant composition that comprises copper. Such methods enhance slag formation during combustion of the gas generant composition by at least 50%.
