The front top roller (20) includes a fiber contacting portion (30) and a reduced-diameter portion (31). The fiber contacting portion (30) has a substantially uniform outer diameter. The reduced-diameter portion (31) is provided at both ends of the fiber contacting portion (30) in an axial direction, and is formed with an outer diameter smaller than an outer diameter of the fiber contacting portion (30). The fiber contacting portion (30) has a width (W1) in an axial direction of 18 mm and the outer diameter (D1) of 30 mm. An outer diameter (D2) of the reduced-diameter portion (31) is 25 mm.

Device for setting the intervening space between a fluted bottom roller and a fluted top roller rotatably supported by a pair of roller stands by way of respective bearings. Each bearing supporting the top roller is disposed in a housing being held by one of the roller stands in slidable condition toward the bottom roller, a stopper secured to each roller stand restricts the displacement of the housing toward the bottom roller. Each housing is provided with a regular square or polygonal transverse cross section and the distances between the longitudinal axis of the housing and the surfaces of abutments formed on the longitudinal surfaces of the housing are different from each other so that the above-mentioned intervening space can be changed by changing the abutment which contacts the stopper.

Described are thread-guiding components for apparatus for producing, treating and processing fiber materials, having a surface which comes into contact with the fiber materials defined by certain values of the maximum averaged roughness depth R.sub.z and the values of the load-bearing proportion calculated for certain depths of cut. The defined surface comprises a cermet material. Preferably there is additionally deposited on it an outer layer, from 0.1 to 10.0 .mu.m in thickness of nitrides and/or carbides of titanium or chromium. The components are notable for significantly enhanced long-term stability of the surface properties. The components are preferably godets.

The device for increasing the cohesion length of the slivers is embodied by a pair of calendar rollers. Each calendar roller has a plurality of transversely disposed protuberances of rounded shape for interengaging in spaced relation with each other in order to slightly crimp a sliver passing through the gap between the rollers. The protuberances are adapted to one another in gear-like manner.

An improved pneumatic spinning machine of the type which includes a draft device composed of a plurality of pairs of rollers, and an air injecting nozzle for producing whirling flows of air to act upon a bundle of fibers fed from the draft device. A front roller of the draft device has an annular air escaping groove formed on a circumference thereof.
